I was at Avebury yesterday and, even though it was cold and windy and the place was rammed with Easter holiday visitors, the sight of these monumental static ‘beings’ (as I feel them to be) always and inevitably lifts my spirits. What is their power?

A low, dark tunnel looking towards the light, I mean, entrance. The side walls are stacked stones and the ceiling is narrow slabs of stones. Light from the entrance hole is reflecting off a puddle of water just inside the entrance.
