A view down the long lavatorium in the cloister of Gloucester Cathedral. A shelf plus basin in front of it extends the complete length towards a stained glass window at the end. The ceiling is elaborately carved in a series of interlinking fan-vaulted arches. On the right, seven pairs of stained glass windows can be seen, each one with three lights.
Lavatorium in Gloucester Cathedral has 14th C origins as facilities for monks in earlier abbey to wash.
The long evocative stretch of #SundayStonework on north of cloisters features elaborately wonderful #MarchArches + later #StainedGlassSunday.
And Harry Potter + Half Blood Prince has a scene here.

John Hayward's Sherborne sheep are on the sagacious side. There's wisdom but also benevolence in this ewe, right.
I like the way that the sheep's fleecy bodies flow from one light to the next, unifying the different elements of the window. @churchartnature.bsky.social #StainedGlassSunday

#StainedGlassSunday Two years ago, I went on a terrific tour of City of London stained glass, organised by the Stained Glass Museum at Ely.
Amidst the dazzling cavalcade of creatures that I saw, I picked these three sheep as among my favourites, the tiny seated ram not being the least of them!
