A mixed sky of dark and white cloud and blue sky. A full rainbow arches over a line of trees that spans the length of the photo, some hills in the background.

‘Whispers of Nature’ First International Haiku Contest 2026

Haiku Association of Sri Lanka

Honourable Mention

beach day
baby’ s first prints
return to sea

Tré – USA

Ravi Kiran's commentary: The crux of this haiku is the second line. Different babies take differently to their first visit to a beach. Some get very excited and others get petrified. Once the feeling settles, babies instinctively explore and are amazed at how they can leave footprints in the wet sands. The last line captures the cyclic nature of life.

Mushrooms in a rental home yard, 2016, North Carolina.
A cluster of mushrooms stand in front of a home. They look to be short. The photo is taken from down near the ground. These mushrooms are beautiful brown and look a lot like they are made of leather. The hill they are standing on has moss, grasses and twigs. It's a cozy scene.
