Thor's Helmet, taken from my balcony
Thor’s Helmet (NGC 2359) is an emission nebula in the Canis Major region, visible only for a short period during the winter season. It also remains quite low on the horizon, right in the middle of the light-pollution belt. These are nearly 21 hours of integrated exposure. 🔭

Marina Tsvetaeva, from "Poems for Blok"
“Your name is a—bird in my hand,
a piece of ice on my tongue.
The lips’ quick opening.
Your name—four letters.
A ball caught in flight,
a silver bell in my mouth.”
[Tr. I. Kaminsky & J. Valentine]

A black-and-white photograph from an early 20th-century field expedition showing Annie Montague Alexander (center) standing outdoors in a rugged, rocky landscape with sparse vegetation. She has short white hair, wears a light-colored jacket, scarf, and practical outdoor attire, and smiles gently at the camera. To her left is another woman in a dark outfit and wide-brimmed hat holding papers; to her right, a third woman in a light hat and coat. The scene captures a moment of camaraderie during fieldwork, likely related to fossil collecting or natural history exploration.
A black-and-white studio portrait of Annie Montague Alexander, an early 20th-century American philanthropist, explorer, and paleontologist. She is depicted in a three-quarter view facing slightly to the left, with short white hair, wearing round wire-framed glasses, a dark high-collared blouse or dress with a light collar, and a brooch pinned at the neck. Her expression is serious and composed against a plain, softly textured gradient background.
Annie Alexander was born #OTD in 1867. A pioneering amateur naturalist & paleontologist whose wealth and passion for science fueled her founding & financing two world-class scientific museums at UC Berkeley: Museum of Vertebrate Zoology (1908) & UC Museum of Paleontology (1921). #WomenInSTEM

old tweet: Every year, Putting Away the Christmas Decorations Ken makes a series of decisions designed to infuriate Unpacking the Christmas Decorations Ken the following year. It’s a magical holiday tradition.
It’s the most wonderful time of the year…

Illustration by Kate Charlesworth for Pink Paper, 1987. A giant cat with a shark fin labelled "we must protect the children!" Leaps with its teeth and claws bared towards a group of smaller, scared-looking figures. The text below reads "just when you thought it was safe to come out of the closet..."
From 1987. Their tactics don't change.

my yellow lab has put me through so much torment & sleepless nights because of all the food he’s stolen, thinking he’s soooo sneaky (hella stomach issues after consuming this crap he shouldn’t have) he had better save me from a house fire or a burglar one day! I love him anyways, the big dummy 💗

99% of news headlines are straight up hell, but a teen girl told me I was a baddie yesterday… so ok I’ll be surviving solely off of those positive vibes and the impeding joy of spooky season for a while 🧡

I suppose the only upside of getting the pre-menopausal night sweats while traveling alone for work is that I can rotate around in this king bed and find a dry spot every other hour. nobody warned me about this new fun milestone of being a woman yay 🎉

Thanks I came here to say that & ask for clarification let’s not spread misinformation but the thing is that particular relief ends in 2028- the Tax Policy Center estimates that the top 1% would receive an average tax cut of over $100,000 from this bill, while the bottom 20% would see around $120.
