Pataikos was a version of the Egyptian god Ptah who was a person with dwarfism. In some versions of the myths he is alternately considered a son of Ptah. He was a protective deity who was typically depicted in amulet form as a nude dwarf person in a bow legged stance with a scarab on his head. He strangles various dangerous animals: snakes, scorpions, and stands on the backs of crocodiles: the amulets are meant to literally show him controlling chaos. Pataikos was frequently also depicted with the goddess of war, Sekhmet, and Nefertem, the god of the lotus. Pataikos was equated by the ancient Greeks to their god Hephaestus. The 25th Amendment must be invoked. If not, Congress has to do our damn job. Speaker Johnson, call us into session. War powers & impeachment. Remove this man from office.
!!! Thank you for doing all this work, Richard, and for thinking my work is a worthwhile addition!

Right wing men desire a world ruled by hierarchy and domination, and the way they treat women and girls is an extension of that principle.
Left wing men desire a world ruled by equality and dignity, and the way they treat women and girls is an exception to that principle.

A very kind review of my book in Greece and Rome, making some of the connections between Roman autocracy and contemporary society that I hadn’t been *quite* willing to say out loud in print…

These are “low enrollment” majors but the classes are regularly at capacity. They changed the funding structure a few years ago here, switching the allocation from course enrollments to majors then blamed these departments for a structural, top-down change. This is entirely a political choice.
