Sierra foothills, wetlands

Sierra foothills, wetlands

Beautiful.

If you'll indulge me:

I recently learned that Gabriel Moraga, the first European to explore California's San Joaquin Valley, in 1806, was born "near" Tucson (Fronteras, Sonora).

I live within a mile of his trek through the willows, ash and swamps.

Saddest part is that THIS is NOT the reign of terror. That comes next.
THEN, maybe 30 years later, we get some progress.

Maybe.

And it all blows East.

Good planning...

Last two times I got Dutch Bros, our order came to $10.66.

I laughed. The clerk didn't get it.
I'll keep trying, tho.

Nice surprise sunset, it's been rainy for most of the week. Looking west over the San Joaquin Valley, citrus in the foreground.

May it be so.

I heartily agree. The Odyssey, The Iliad, Beowulf, the Hebrew Bible, countless more were oral tradition long before they were transcribed.

Audiobooks ARE Oral Tradition.

Speaking of Beowulf, there's a great edition on Audible, Seamus Heaney reading his translation.

It's just SO good.

They filmed the crop-duster scene about an hour from me, near Delano, Ca.

It still looks like that. Dust and corn.

Quick Rear Window Trivia:

The struggling pianist is played by Ross Bagdasarian, cousin to William Saroyan, and creator (and voice) of Alvin And The Chipmunks.

I'm on team "North By Northwest," but "Rear Window" is absolutely perfect.

Michelada, garnished with sea salt, pickles jalapeno and lime.

Cervesa Victoria, El Vicio Michelada mix, juice of one lime. Rimmed with sea salt and chili powder. The jalapenos are from the garden, salt cured, lacto-fermented. Still working on the aesthetics, but my stars, it's delicious

This is a great time to recall that Charles I, the British king who claimed to be above the law, was beheaded on January 30, 1649 after having made war on his people. mycandles.blogspot.com/2022/11/brit...

30 January 1649

Charles Stuart, King of England, will walk through the Banqueting House. A cold day, he has put on two shirts, so he won’t shiver.

At 2pm, for high treason, he will be “putt to death by the severinge of his head from his body.”

Charles II executed on 30 January 1649. A brief independence (although technically not for the UK, which didn't exist as such, and not if you were Irish who were about to experience all sorts of horrors). That said... all right, I give up. I'll have a cup of tea and a lie down like most days.
