A view over a hot bubbling pool with some colourful run-off. It looks a bit like a burning comet falling through the air, an eye with tears or lashes streaming from it, or a jellyfish with long tentacles. The pool is blue and the run off area is pale pink and green, with some green grasses and red rocks surrounding it.

Celebrating five years of drone ownership, renewing my flyer ID today with 38/40 on the test (yay!).

Here's a few of my favourite drone photographs from the past few years from #Iceland. Such a fun addition to my trips there :)

From Europa and Ariane 1, to Ariane 6 and Vega-C, we have a long history of Europe's launchers 🧡

The first Europa flight took place on 5 June 1964.

Nowadays, ESA provides Europe with autonomous access to space through the Ariane and Vega launcher families, which will continue to evolve.

Did you know, the Atlas moth, the largest insect living in Hong Kong, in Cantonese (蛇頭蛾) translates as "snakehead butterfly", given its characteristic cobra-like eyespot & batesian mimicry. It looks very dissapointed.

In a forest of conifers, a yellow-headed Lambeosaurus magnicristatus raises its red-margined cockscomb crest above a herd of brown-and red striped Corythosaurus, with its semicircular crest. They're all marching who-knows-where, and who even knows how the lambeosaur got there? He sure doesn't.

Both these skulls should be basically public domain photographs, so far as I can tell.

One of the most famous mosasaurs, Tylosaurus proriger, submerges after taking a breath. It is dark above and light below, as tentatively suggested by some palaeocolour data. The challenges of interpreting scaly reptile palaeocolour, and the tiny scraps of colour data we have for this animal, preclude much confidence in chromatic interpretations of this species, however.

Also, if you stare at this long enough, you'll see a few sharks. No foolin'.

Been thinking marine-reptiley thoughts today. Here's one of my latest #paleoart efforts along that line: Tylosaurus proriger. The colour is based on fossil colour data, although it's far from certain that this animal was black and countershaded.

AI footage in the quote post. However it's a real fact, with real footage available (See my link below). Now people who believed it have a false image of how octopus act, and people who recognise it as AI question a real observed scientific fact. Utter bullshit.

This isn't a scene from #StarWars.

What you're looking at is the Tarantula Nebula. While those beams come from the lasers installed on the telescopes that comprise our VLTI.

But why are we sending lasers into the sky? Find out: https://www.eso.org/public/images/potw2616a/

Drawing showing the biodiversity from the Permian of Mallorca, in particular from the Port des Canonge Formation. From left to right, and from top to bottom:
- Shoot and tree of a plant, possibly Feysia sp.
- Storm clouds bring pouring rain to a river valley at the end of the dry season
- Conchostracans similar to Triops (representing the ichnogenus Cruziana) move through the bottom of a pool
- A mother varanopid and her offspring (representing the ichnogenus Dromopus) rest on a branch
- A roachoid insect comes out from a burrow (representing the ichnofossil Palaeophycus tubularis)
- Tramuntanasaurus tiai eating some horsetails
- Early synapsids of different types (representing the ichnigenus Dimetropus) gather at a waterhole in the dry season
- A gorgonopsian tries to catch a Tramuntanasaurus, with the latter escaping by shedding its tail
- A large moradisaurine walks through a lush riverside in the rainy season. Smaller reptiles and insects appear nearby

During the Permian period Mallorca was located on the Equator and was not an island, but part of the mainland. Some terrestrial creatures are known from that time, mostly from the tracks they left behind
