I've been harping on about the qualitative vs. quantitative divide in #contentmarketing so when I saw this article by Mark Ritson in Think with #Google, I had that lovely, tingly feeling of another human validating my own point of view. Maybe you'll like it too.😄

Could you produce the energy needed to make a piece of toast? This is such a helpful way to make the cost of energy tangible.

Glass 1/2 full: this is zen marketing.
Glass 1/2 empty: this is shorter short-termism.
2026 state of #marketing from Think with Google:
"Stop selling the ultimate outcome and start celebrating intermediate steps. Break down loyalty programmes and customer journeys into smaller, instantly gratifying milestones."
Bottom line: live in the present. 👇
I wonder how much "brain fry" marketing professionals have experienced using other tech – Slack, WhatsApp, smartphones in general – compared with other professions. I imagine the profession tends to be pretty deep fried when it comes to tech overuse.
A study of U.S. workers finds 14% report "brain fry" from AI overuse. Marketing had the highest rate at 26%. via @mattgsouthern.bsky.social

I signed the Rebuild letter. It's a call on everyone committed to #Europe and European social platforms to take action — and rebuild the #socialmedia universe to give us ethical options. You can sign it too: letter.rebuild.net

On this day 20 years ago, #GoogleDocs was released.
It's not as venerable an old machine as #MicrosoftOffice, but Google's office suite is no longer a spring chicken.
It's worth remembering when we get frustrated that the today's alternatives aren't as robust. Give 'em time. They're catching up.
So, reminder to self: Go grab a coffee with a friend, play badminton with your kid in the backyard, rewatch Moonstruck with your partner — do all the stuff that makes our flawed world beautiful.
And yeah, you can do a lot of beautiful stuff online, too. Just remember which echo chamber you're in.
As I spent more time on Reddit, I became more and more anxious and negative about the world. I felt an urgency to dismantle and disengage from the effed-up reality around me.
Now, I see what happened: I began to see points-of-view on Reddit as the norm. When in fact they represent a minority view.
For a long time, my only daily social media platform was Reddit. I loved — and still love — Redditors' depth of knowledge and incredible ability to solve problems for others.
But over time I noticed something...
This weekend my e-reader went haywire, and it made me pick up a paperback I hadn't read for a while.
Ah, the joy of that weight in my hands. The silky paper and the gratifying swish when I turn the pages...
Like it's responding to me.
Sometimes analog just feels friendlier.
This is worth repeating:
Writing is thinking.
So if we outsource everything in the writing process to AI, guess what? We're not thinking.
Am I poo-poohing AI? No. I use LLMs daily for ideation, research, and feedback, etc. But the best LLM is still the one sitting on my shoulders. 😉
"Successful people do this." You see it? It's the way "successful" is shorthand for "rich." But what about the person who earns enough and spends extra time with family? Or struggles financially but has deep friendships? Or chooses a different path to "success"? Success can mean a lot of things.
"As tasks continue to be automated, the hard work of imagination is worth investing effort in." — Seth Godin
▫️ AI can't engage you in a personal story – the kind that makes you feel connected to another human being, the kind we've been telling since we painted cave walls (and no doubt before that). #ai#tech
▫️ AI can't give you a hug or a handshake. Laugh with you, gasp at that shocking thing, reach out and squeeze your shoulder and say, "I'm so sorry."
Reminder: AI can't do community.
▫️ AI can't create the unique sauce you get when you put half a dozen human brains in the same room.

"I går udskrev Mette Frederiksen folketingsvalg. Vi ved ikke, hvem der danner regering efter valget. Men vi ved, at uanset hvem der sidder i Statsministeriet, så sidder Big Tech stadig på vores digitale hverdag. Det ændrer ingen valgkamp på." #dkpol #dktech danmarkskifter.dk/email/2f7f39...

Need a breakdown of just how we got locked into a few crappy #bigtech companies' services and products? Cory Doctorow has shared a big chunk of his upcoming audiobook, "Enshittification: Why Everything Suddenly Got Worse and What to Do About It" (coming out Oct. 2025). Link below.👇

Loving #MIstralAI and its #LeChat LLM chatbot - the latest version feels like a great alternative to the non-European #AI options. Its agents are especially useful. 👍 mistral.ai
