Great to be back! Thanks @gregpincus.bsky.social.
I loved spending time with you all. Enjoy your week, and write wonderful stories (using whatever method or structure you prefer). ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿ’“

Ha. I get that. Maybe we should tag in, tag out like wrestlers. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Definitely. They're truly brilliant, sort of unheralded in the realm of story development. They remind me of the classic writers of short stories and radio dramas, endlessly pumping out new scripts and the quality is always better than it has any right to be. #kidlitchat

It really is. The interactive and systemic elements make it a completely different endeavor, and it's really refreshing when you're sick of writing your book. ๐Ÿ˜†

OMG, action scenes are the most pain to write. So meticulous and labor intensive. ๐Ÿ˜† I prefer really exciting dialogue scenes. Same as action, right?

That's definitely a key part of my process, sort of an overlapping tool I use in my own and work and in my day job.
Those materials were so formative for me in childhood. ๐Ÿ˜‰

We do a lot of that in game development too, mapping out story beats and how we match them up with game systems and features.

You should totally write that Campbell picture book, BTW. #kidlitchat

I had a blast writing Spellbinders: Break the Game, which is a humorous deconstruction of the Hero's Journey. The protagonist misinterprets a similar book as a self-help guide and tries to follow it to become a hero.
It does not go well. ๐Ÿ˜†

So true. My characters always send me packing after a first pass, and I'm just sitting shotgun for the rest of the story. #kidlitchat

Oh, interesting. I totally forgot about the STC. Sounds like it was a good place to start to help you reach your own process. ๐Ÿ˜„

It's almost always an organic process of discovery, starting with completing a first draft. I almost never go in knowing what I plan to do. The structure grows out of the fallout of Draft 1.

At the end of this yearโ€™s Books by the Banks, a visitor dropped by the author tables to give each of us a unique 3D-printed cat from the collection she carries. She gives them out to brighten peoplesโ€™ day.
I signed a book for her son. My inscription?
