Beavers are a surprisingly overlooked literary audience. I encourage you to follow your instincts

The science is in on salmon populations. They need free flowing rivers, connected, healthy tributaries for raising young, and good water quality with varied flows. They need beavers.

The only thing that needs to die in this situation is a violent resource management strategy that ignores ecology.

Beaver-human coexistence is possible!

A cool thing about this site: if you look at the bare earth lidar map you can see the beavs are reconnecting the exact spot where streams used to flow on either side of the path. They were drained and filled in for farms in decades past, but beavs "remember"

YES! This is another great treatise outlining why focusing on keystone spp, like beaver, and ecosystems of high biodiversity, like wetlands, in restoration and protection is so critical. #ecology

Yes! There does seem to be a combination of random and strategy. If I can say anything confidently about beaver behavior, it's that "they do what what they want!" 🤷‍♀️

I am constantly in awe of beaver's highly selective methods of tree chewing. In just this small area we can see a cottonwood that has been repeatedly debarked and healed, but never cut, a mature ash that is heavily debarked, & two smaller ash in various stages of felling. How do beavs plan & decide?

USFS conservation pledge dated 1977

USFS conservation pledge dated 1977

The USFS has a long history of conveying the importance of stewardship to the American people. The new administration is mad that it worked.

We need Chaco footwear and Coleman on this list too!

Our Forests Are Being Taken. SAVEUSFS.ORG 193 million acres of America's public lands face unprecedented attacks. It's time to pay attention.

Pressuring the outdoor brands to speak out against the gutting of the USFS is a worthwhile effort. They benefit directly from people recreating on public lands and are widely used for gear by people in federal jobs. Details on how to write your letters/posts as a coordinated effort : saveusfs.org

Some beavers are building a dam, using some sophisticated equipment like roadsigns. One holds a clipboard. Standing atop the dam, a bunny has a small stick which he presents to the beavers. The beaver with the clipboard reviews the stick.

Last day to submit comments to demand UNESCO heritage site, Chaco Canyon, stays protected! The relics of early peoples and fragile desert environments should not be turned into corporate oil drilling sites for short term profit!!! Links to public comment site below.

Washington Habitat Connectivity Action Plan

I've been really impressed with the work Washington state is doing around habitat connectivity, and their public facing maps to identify important crossings and wildlife areas. They deserve a shout out!
