The DNA testing has always had to be verified by standard forensic testing using STRs. It's the use of the Ancestry records, family trees and tree-building platforms that law enforcement want access to. The terms and conditions have been ambiguous in this regard.
A blog post from Ancestry clarifying that their services should not be used for law enforcement investigations.

Debbie’s presentation is entitled Does Consumer DNA Testing Spell the End of Donor Anonymity?
#PETconf25
Thank you Debbie for a really enjoyable and informative presentation. This will definitely have got people talking about the issues you raised. A great summary 'DNA = Donors are Not Anonymous'

I saw that article yesterday and shared it on Twitter and Facebook. (I don't tend to be very active here.) I'm not sure I agree with some of the author's comments.
An outstanding, empathetic long-read article on the tragic case of Constance Marten and Mark Gordon. Like the writer I've always wondered why this couple were prosecuted and brought to trial in the first place. Parents who lose a child deserve compassion not punishment. www.lrb.co.uk/the-paper/v4...
A very interesting interview with Anouk Curry, the producer of the recent highly acclaimed ITV documentary on the Lucy Letby case. youtu.be/xDu0nYfZKz4?... #LucyLetby
The ITV documentary about Lucy Letby is very good. Old school, public interest broadcasting which assumes the intelligence and the conscience of its audience. Anyone with the slightest interest in the case should watch it.
