In environments where vulnerability is mocked or dismissed, people learn to conceal the feeling. They may become fluent in productivity while losing touch with their inner weather.

Happy 80th birthday to Tommy Shannon! You must have some good stuff going on if Stevie Ray Vaughan AND Johnny Winter chose you to play bass in the band! He was a kind, mellow fellow when I was pestering the fellas as a kid. It was nice to thank him and Chris Layton years later for their tolerance!

A wide, panoramic view of Goðafoss waterfall in Iceland, captured in black and white. A broad curtain of water thunders over a curved basalt edge, breaking into mist as it crashes into the river below. In the foreground, dark rocks line the riverbank, while the fast-moving water ripples toward the viewer. Above, a dramatic sky filled with layered clouds stretches across the horizon, echoing the raw, powerful atmosphere of the landscape.

One photo is from Orion, taken in 2026.

The other is from ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’ made in 1968.

Pretty remarkable really. #artemis

Vanilla Fudge is a bit forgotten and unknown within the world of rock. It seems that their captivating progressive blend of rock, soul and psychedelia doesn't appeal to most of the (younger) progheads. But in the second half of the sixties Vanilla Fudge was a highly acclaimed band, both by public and the press. Famous progressive rock acts with their heydays in the seventies like Deep Purple, Uriah Heep and even Yes pointed at Vanilla Fudge as an important source of inspiration.
The Vanilla Fudge, Mark Stein, Vinny Martell, Tim Bogert and Carmine Appice put the hammer down on the 60's by jamming pop ballads into their psychedelic meat-grinder and coming up with heavenly hash. No one has ever done "heavy" any better than the Fudge on their original albums, The Beat Goes On, Near The Beginning, Renaissance and Rock & Roll and their concoctions are always mentioned in the same breath as Hendrix, Zeppelin and Cream.
Near The Beginning was the only Fudge LP produced by the band alone and the first LP without Shadow Morton. It boasted some of the most lovely symphonic and vocal arrangements the Fudge would ever record and the entire second side was the bone crunching Break Song, recorded live at the Shriner's Auditorium in Los Angeles. In just those four songs from that album, Vanilla Fudge successfully distilled all that was good, inspired and noble about the 60's era.

"Near The Beginning" is the fourth album by the Vanilla Fudge, released on February 5, 1969. It reached #16 on the Billboard 200 Top LP's chart.
