Scannell’s Whitebeam, named after the great Irish botanist Maura Scannell, is one of the rarest tree species in the world. Endemic to Ross Island, Killarney, it has 5 known plants, only 1 mature adult, and is registered as critically endangered by the IUCN. #Ireland #biodiversity #forestry #botany

Honoured to win Best Natural History Presentation sponsored by the Irish Naturalist' Journal at #Environ2025! My research on using host trees to predict invasive forestry pests could help prioritise high-risk 🪲🍄🦠 species & guide future surveillance in Ireland. @ucdscience.bsky.social #Invasive
