Figure 1: Solid lines represent predation. Dotted lines represent mutualism. (A) Snakes are absent in Saipan, where birds are present to disperse seeds, and rats exist in higher numbers, which can impact seeds through seed predation. (B) Snakes are present in Guam, preying on both birds and rats. The absence of birds diminishes seed survival through limiting dispersal, but predation on rats might enhance seed survival by diminishing predation of seeds by rats. Photo credits—snake: S. Siers, starling: L. Berry, seeds and rat: stock images.
Invasive species are often studied in isolation, but what happens when multiple invasions interact? 💥 A new study shows how #invasive snakes affect ecosystems already shaped by invasive rodents. Congrats to Dr. Haldre Rogers & team!

I need someone’s expertise. I’m sadly discovering a lot of my yard is invasive. iNaturalist told me this is Lonicera/honeysuckle. Are they all invasive? Does anyone recognize this one? #invasive or #native #plants #wichita #kansas One good thing: all this yard work is giving my muscles a boost.

🍄Native #fungi seem to be able to decompose #invasive Canadian goldenrod (Solidago canadensis) litter, so no specialist decomposers are needed. This lets the #plant feed #biomass straight into the carbon cycle, making protected meadows more vulnerable to invasion than previously estimated. ⤵️
