Laughing gull frenzy at fisherman’s cast offs

Another common sight along the #StLucia coastline - #laughinggulls. This #seabird has quite a cackle for its call, is associated with fishing boats & comes in numbers to a feeding frenzy around fish waste. It’s distinctive with its black head, red bill and white eye markings in the breeding season.

The rhinoceros #petrel is a made up species of hefty-billed #fulmar I created in 2021 while I was first testing out Clip Studio Paint, a program I've long since abandoned.

As the #seabird breeding season starts to get underway back home we enjoyed watching the gregarious #sandwichterns on the fishing pier at Gros Islet #StLucia They have distinctive yellow tips to the end of their bills and a shaggy black crest on their heads.

Future work should include other methods, such as #regurgitates and #faecalsamples, to better understand #black-leggedkittiwake diet in Arctic Canada.

#Seabird protection in this instance moving forward a step

As a #seabird #biologist, I know all to well how difficult it can be to deploy tracking devices that last long enough on the #bird! This new study uses 3D-printed clamp systems to deploy tracking devices on #seabirds.
