Do go and check out this tour de force by @alejandra1909.bsky.social and @jamesemcdonald.bsky.social where we isolated a HUGE number of microorganisms from the oak microbiome in the UK. Impressive work and talent from Ale!

Go and check out the pre-print of the landscape-scale tree microbiome study from the Future Oak project. Huge amounts of efforts and talent went into this work, with a pinch of "this is crazy, but we can do it". Well done @jamesemcdonald.bsky.social @cenococcum.bsky.social et al. Thread below ๐
New #openaccess opinion piece, the first of our brilliant collaboration with @evolvedbiofilm.bsky.social @sofiaifgomes.bsky.social @xinmingxu.bsky.social & @marccamb.bsky.social - thanks to @unibirmingham.bsky.social and @unileiden.bsky.social for funding!

Go and check out the great review by @xinmingxu.bsky.social and collaborators in this issue, and also shout-out to @evolvedbiofilm.bsky.social for supporting amazing science art actually made by a real humans and not AI!
Many thanks @jamesemcdonald.bsky.social & @marccamb.bsky.social for the hospitality and organising everything so nicely for our visit. I had a great time! I look forward to continuing our tree-microbe discussions, with @evolvedbiofilm.bsky.social & @xinmingxu.bsky.social
Hope to see you soon!

I am a bit late, but very proud of the achievements of Dr. Hussain who was my first co-supervised PhD researcher and brilliantly passed his viva. Well done Usman for processing thousands of samples to bring some fascinating insights on the resilience of oak tree microbiomes.
Thank you @evolvedbiofilm.bsky.social for such a great organisation and everyone for the fantastic discussions. I even managed to visit Amsterdam Microbe Museum before catching my train! Looking forward to hosting you, @sofiaifgomes.bsky.social and Xinming in Birmingham !
It was a great day in Leiden today, with lots of cool science talks and future collaborations discussions. Thanks @evolvedbiofilm.bsky.social and team for organising this mini symposium, and looking forward to more discussions tomorrow

Always a great meeting for PhD students and post-docs.
It is a privilege to be at the first ISME conference held on the African continent in Cape Town! Please come and have a chat if you are interested in bacteria-insect interactions and missed my presentation. #isme19
