This is how I usually draw.
To be honest, I personally feel that shading and coloring have a bigger impact on the overall mood of a piece than the balance or flow of the line art. I hope this helps someone, even if just a little!

The noise he heard caused Niners' body to shudder, as he spun around immediately. "DETECTIVE-! NO!", he yelled out, no trace of the usual monotony left in his voice. His system's sent into overdrive, as a new feeling crawls under his skin, swallowing him whole - panic. _________________________________________________________________________ a b/w sketch of Niners with a blue background with some red accents Niners looks incredibly panicked, as he's turning around to face the source of his worry - the sound of a gunshot coming from where Nico is, and Niners knows that his partner is unarmed. He's hurt, several scratches and bullet wounds being present on his body but those aren't the main cause of the aforementioned panic, as he is way more worried about his human partner - Nico. Niners' pupil look like glitched lines/squares to signify that he's feeling unstable and going through some pain. His right arm, the furthest from the "camera" is mostly obscured by the shadows, remaining as a silhouette, but it's easy to tell that a portion of the synthetic skin is missing, leaving the wiring and artificial muscles exposed. The background, as mentioned before, is mostly blue and black with red accents. This bg depicts Niners' inner feelings at this moment - a splash of blue being android blood, while red lines, error signs and messages being the visual representation of a system overload and an all-encompassing feeling of fear and panic. The white line going through the frame represents the sound of a gunshot -- so loud and terrifying that it just pierces Niners and shatters everything, causing his system to be on the brink of breaking, emotions seeping through the cracks.

a sketch page of Nico as a monster (Monster Hunter universe) He is a hulking Fanged Wyvern type monster, resembling a mixture of large cat, otter, bear and, naturally a wyvern. His body is mostly covered in sturdy scales, bumps and ridges poking out here and there, with areas of fur lining his chest, stomach, legs and tail. Nico's signature hairstyle is made up of a leathery sail, akin to one that some reptiles have. The part closest to the face always lays rested and styled into the shape of his bangs, while the part going along his neck actually has the ability to stand up, showcasing that he's a fearsome threat. His sail is tattered and his body is scarred, indicating that he has been in many a battle, and has a bit of a territorial nature. Nico's fighting style is more about strength, usually the brute kind but don't let that fool you 'cause he's actually pretty cunning and smart, and poison since all the spikes are coated with a naturally secreted type of toxin. There are multiple rows of teeth lining the inside of his mouth, with two large "tusks" protruding from the lower jaw. The claws on both his front and hind legs are very sharp and are great for slashing and stabbing. The claws on forelegs are non-retractable and very long, perfect for digging through earthy soil, while the hindlegs have retractable ones. monsterNico can actually stand up on his hind legs and climb rocky ledges, as well as trees. The sketches on the page are as follows: upper left shows a fullbody of the monster, with a little silhouette of a human for height and size comparison; a bit lower are doodles of Nico's front and back paws, showcasing the difference in claws and shapes; on the right is a doodle of monsterNico's head with a closer look at some smaller details.

a sketch page of Niners as a monster (Monster Hunter universe) He is a massive Elder Dragon. His features are that of a wolf-like dragon with fur and feathers. Two smooth horns sit atop his head, base of said horns hiding behind each long pointy ear. A regal fluffy mane adorns his neck, going all the way to the base near the torso, traveling slightly lower to the big pointy crystal on the chest. The tip of the tail also has a tuft of fur lining it both on top and at the bottom. Puffed out feathers sit on the shoulders, serving as a little gradual change from the fur around the neck to the large feathery wings on the back. monsterNiners' body is beefy, with distinct groups of muscles being easily visible around the arms, chest and back. The forelimbs resemble human arms with paws being distinctly hand-esque in build, 5 fingers upon each paw, while the hindlimbs are that of a canine. The sketches on the page are as follows: on the left is a portrait of sort that offers a closer look at details around Niners' face, mane, and shoulders; on the right is a fullbody doodle, complete with a little silhouette of a human for height and size comparison.

On the left is a doodle of him charging up for a lightning attack - neck slightly bent, almost in an arc, thunderous energy crackling about, congregating near the pointed bits of fur at the back of the neck. The energy is gathering and moving towards the horns and face, as monsterNiners gets ready to unleash a thunderbolt or perhaps a full-on lightning beam/strike. His eyes are aglow, making him appear extremely fierce and terrifying. The sketch in the upper right is showing Niners firing an ice beam from his mouth. His horns and eyes are aglow similar to the sketch on the left but the way they're lit up is different - the horns look as if the light is more contained within the crystalline structure. The thin skin around the cheeks on Niners' face letting through a bit of the light of the elemental attack too. The last sketch on this page, the one closer to the middle, located below the ice beam attack one, shows monsterNiners showing his teeth as an intimidation tactic. He is a very serene Elder Dragon by nature, preferring to co-exist in harmony rather than fight and present an aggressive attitude. However, if he gets threatened, he tends to use intimidation in order to deter further conflict. He will attack - or, more like, defend himself - when he's in grave danger and conflict is completely imminent.
