‘Government needs to recognise failure of water privatisation’ – Feargal Sharkey We spoke to the singer and prominent environmental campaigner Feargal Sharkey, and began by asking him to tell us more about the campaign to nationalise water companies

Feargal Sharkey is absolutely bang on the money.
💩Gov't thinks that if it quotes nonsense figures on costs the water scandal will go away.
🙉It's ignoring public opinion. 📣Time to shout louder.
Sign the parliament petition. We want a referendum on public ownership of water.

Morse Code "coin". Not particularly useful for learning but the "receive side" is interesting. See if you can figure it out.

Didn’t want to get affected like this giving evidence. Caught me by surprise. We all lost so much. We have to act on the inquiry’s recommendations. We have to be better now, so that we can be better next time.

Help raise £500 to Drive 2 Save Lives - Vehicles for Ukraine – JustGiving Crowdfunding Iʼm raising money to Drive 2 Save Lives - Vehicles for Ukraine. Support this JustGiving Crowdfunding Page.

A friend is driving to Ukraine next week (with basically no notice - job needed doing) to drop off lifesaving aid - and a vehicle to help efforts there.

He's self funding the costs presently, but if any of you fancy helping him you can do so by donating here.

The Government needs to realise more regulation won’t fix our broken water system.

We need to kick financial predators out & take it back into public control.

But don’t just take it from me. Listen to a sewage campaigner who inspired Channel 4’s ‘Dirty Business’.

Ticks next to a 5p coin - that’s the scale.

Nymphs (poppy-seed sized) are so easy to miss!

Check skin after being outdoors, especially hidden spots and remove ticks promptly.

Awareness prevents Lyme.

Trump's tireless efforts to destroy the series of alliances forged by generations of American leaders of both parties are as striking as his relentless pursuit of the favor of Vladimir Putin. The story behind this will be told at some point.

Some thoughts

- Shed no tears for Khamenei et al - Islamic Republic has been brutal at home and scourge regionally

- Revolted at Bibi/Trump reckless and self interested adventurism

- UK has little alternative re use of Fairford and Diego Garcia - defence of GCC is a thin but defensible line

Can a TV Show Solve the UK’s Sewage Crisis? My advice: Tune into Dirty Business, Channel 4’s new “factual drama” about the UK’s water pollution scandal — but don’t watch it while eating. There are simply too many shots of raw sewage to make a T...

After countless public campaigns, petitions, hefty fines and even a government inquiry, can three-part docudrama Dirty Business really make a difference?

Channel 4’s Dirty Business is a clarion call to nationalise the water industry As the drama shows, private firms no longer able to pollute the coast of England of Wales just switched to rivers instead

Excellent piece by @sandralaville who did so much of the early work to unocver this stinking scandal

Agreed, but COL crisis was trotted out for a particular moment when energy prices unexpectedly and suddenly went through the roof. I think the gov still uses the term to imply that COL is something external, like COVID, Brexit or the Financial Crisis rather than being something they could affect.

Is it all down to "cost of living crisis" becoming the permanent chorus that prevents any rational discussion about taxation?

Jan is too modest. It's been 5 years since the hydrogen ladder came out. And at least 3 years since his conclusive meta-study of hydrogen studies. We were clear that hydrogen as a fuel was a terrible idea.

Hydrogen promoters owe us billions in wasted money & years we can never recover.

Very excited about this factual drama which will bring to our screens two of my real life heroes Ashley Smith and Peter Hammond. It will be strange to see them portrayed by actors but the story is a great one although the villains, as with the PO scandal, have not yet been brought to justice.

Great insight here into the disastrous state of our politics today, and the role played by oligarchs and media moguls in corrupting government. One man may be the focus but the rot is set much deeper.

I yield to nobody in my hatred of these blockchain tokens, but this isn't quite right.

There is no "con", nor is it "pyramid scheme" nor are the buyers "rubes." If any of that were true, the value would have hit zero years ago.

Flooding in Oxfordshire: what can we do? Oxfordshire has a flooding problem – and it’s getting worse. We are not talking Florida-style flooding. Oxfordshire is about as far as it’s possible to get from the sea in England – and although that...

This is such a scandal - why are water companies not subject to the law? This has to end.

That's sad news, having been a customer of both Oxford and Chippy stores for 40 years. You could go in and ask for anything and they always had one somewhere on a high shelf or at the back of a drawer.

There's a big switch. When it is flicked, magic happens. Flies hatch, trout rise, deer emerge from the woods, an otter puts it's head out of the water and fixes you with a stare. You belong where you are and everything else accepts you. No other humans exist.
