I’ve seen children die of
-influenza
-COVID
-pertussis
And wouldn’t wish those experiences on anyone.
Know what these things have in common?!
Effective vaccines that save lives.
The first measles death in the US in a decade -- the tragic, preventable death of a child whose parents chose not to protect them with vaccination -- should spark an immediate nation-wide campaign to ensure all children are protected against preventable diseases. Anything less is unconscionable.
Before panic sets it. The New NIH Director and Congress will want research to continue, so the machine will start up at some point. Keep writing papers and preparing proposals. AND educate the public about the key role peer review plays in science and the time and infrastructure investment needed
All NIH study sections canceled indefinitely. This will halt science and devastate research budgets in universities.
If you are ready to advocate to your representatives (or friends and families) about the economic value of NIH funded research, you can check your state at www.unitedformedicalresearch.org/nih-in-your-...
A Rhode Island nonprofit will hold a ribbon-cutting for its supervised consumption site next week, marking the first time the controversial harm-reduction service has been offered (officially, anyway) outside New York City

The healthiest and safest communities are ones with the most access to resources and services, not with more policing.
We are never going to arrest our way out of poverty, homelessness and addiction!

Thank you for taking the time to tell us what made #AMERSA2024 special to you.
Let me simplify :
The root cause of addiction is trauma.
The root cause of unregulated poisoned drug supply is bad policies.
Until we address the root causes addiction will continue to go untreated, and people will continue to die of illicit drugs.
