I really liked your framing in the second note. That’s sort of how I approached factoring and had a great deal of success (or so I thought). I taught the steps independently and put it all together at the end (this is when I used the box method)

I think that there are some pedagogical practices that go across content areas, but for math and reading in particular, there is specific content knowledge that can be helpful to best support students. The model I coach in is not content-based though

…think it’s helpful to be coached/mentored by someone who has content-specific knowledge? Would love to hear others’ perspective to push my thinking on this! (or if you know of research on this topic, would love to hear about that too!)
