How exactly is Duolingo using Rive for their character animation? An in-depth analysis.

What I’m reading this Monday morning : "How exactly is Duolingo using Rive for their character animation?" open.substack.com/pub/elisawic...

I'd like to try this for @potch.app 🤔

Been working with a talented artist on early concept art for the main character, creating environments tests & shaders in Godot (more on that soon), and running first tests for the original soundtrack with a composer.

I love working with Liquid Glass on iOS! I’m using the native look, but in some gamified views of my app I’m also adding textured surfaces and custom buttons. Hope you like it, I’m really happy with the result! Coming soon in the new update of @potch.app around April. #iOSDev #UIDesign #IndieDev

🌱 @potch.app V2 dev update: working on the Garden
It's a journaling app, and this new feature lets plants grow as you write. Isometric view, Japanese-inspired art, built with SpriteKit.
First final assets are replacing placeholders. A barn, a Torii gate, ...

I'm building new background environments in Swift for
@potch.app with some new animations. It was so annoying having to recompile every time, so I'm making a debug mode to place the elements in the right place, a HUGE time-saver 😂

These past few weeks: no code 🧑‍🔬
Instead: a GDD & 80 pages of musical direction.
And hours of research (cosmology, physics, theories about the universe). Not to be "200% realistic," but so every element of the lore has logic behind it.
The kind that makes a fictional universe hold together.

POV: you're trying to keep every sounds/assets neatly sorted for a game with way too many locations. The rabbit hole of subfolders never ends. But at least when I need that one specific file, I know exactly where it is. Worth it.

Ok, I'm currently rebuilding the UI to better match the game's lore and overall tone.

The structure is still taking shape, but the direction is clearer now. Sometimes, alignment means letting go of what already exists 😅

One example I can share: Nomenclature.

A file defining how places and concepts are named (rules, meanings, narrative intent).

The structure is still evolving, and more documents will be added as new parts of the lore take shape.

Behind The Scenes: Lore organization

The lore of my future game "Dawnless Era" lives in a structured library of themed documents.

This helps keep the universe coherent and avoid contradictions as it evolves.

Thank you! Really happy the atmosphere comes through. There’s a lot to uncover in this world 👀

Thanks! I used ARI-W9500 as the base, then layered different colored versions to create this effect. The specific color choices tie into the game’s lore. Glad you like it 😊

I'm trying to make pixel art icons, the left version is the most recent one. I kinda like it and I think I'll stick with this style? (These are in-game screenshots)

Pixel art space scene showing a glowing orange-red dwarf star on the left with visible surface activity and eruptions, and the curved edge of a dark planet with a bright orange atmospheric rim on the right, set against a deep red-to-black starfield background. Title screen work-in-progress for Dawnless Era.

November vs December
A month spent on Dawnless Era title screen.
Main tasks: finding the right planetary scale, developing realistic atmospheres with cloud patterns, crafting a living red dwarf surface with visible eruptions, and establishing a cohesive visual style.

... I know "almost" nothing about it, except from a player's perspective. But, I've always been a creative, curious person who loves understanding how things work, so I'm not starting from scratch either.

Now, I’m starting to create a video game inspired by those reflections: a project about time, memory… and the slow disorganization of the universe’s structure.

Ever since I was a child, I’ve been fascinated by our universe.
Over the past few years, I’ve learned so much through the internet and documentaries that have fueled my imagination.
