Tax cuts for the rich are a policy choice. Cutting the social safety net in exchange for them is a policy choice.
States like New York have an opportunity to help undo this trickle down nonsense by raising taxes on the rich (who will still be rich).
I hope Gov. Hochul does.
There should be a law passed, and enforced, that we will no longer have for profit prisons of any kind! Ever again! Incentivized incarceration should be a crime against humanity and should be retroactively enforced! They know what they are doing is wrong!

Trump is touting the no tax on tips provision in his budget bill.
But many tipped workers won't benefit because their earnings are so low. And the provision expires in 2028.
The estate tax cuts that primarily benefit the rich? Those were made permanent.

As a mother of four and now a grandmother, I cannot imagine the trauma these children are experiencing in detention centers.
No child should be begging to go back to school or treated like a prisoner.

And so I am holding the thought...what if these conditions, the ones that surely are a crisis for the status quo, but which might also be thought of as consequences and teachings, what if these conditions, are, even now, awakening seeds? And what if the seeds are us?
Surely, if a seed had a nervous system, these processes would produce challenging sensations. The splitting open, the sending out of roots through hard ground, the unfurling leaves. The stretching towards the light.
It is the season of starting seeds for gardeners in the northern places, and so I'm thinking about the processes some seeds need to germinate. Some you have to soak. Some must freeze to crack open. Some you need to nick with a sharp tool.

If I were a Republican in congress, I might be very quietly working on a speedy impeachment/removal plan that ends with President Mike Johnson. 2. That's not right. I had just gotten sick to death of shitty billionaires and their performative expressions of wealth.

Speaker Johnson must immediately reconvene the House to vote on a war powers resolution. It’s beyond clear we are at war. The Speaker's legacy will be that he made Congress so irrelevant that a president can threaten to wipe out a civilization while Congress is on vacation.
