Nowe’s meeting with The Medium proves fruitful when he is able to procure a report of improvement to the General, delaying the inevitability of her proposed action for another day. Angered by this rebuttal, the General shifts gears to deploy some of her elite soldiers to hunt down a missing link to their darker and grander scheme for June7 in secret. While Andrew, Sam and Nonshedo carry on with the mission, to Trigger’s dismay he is left in the care of Andrew’s wife and owner of the family prosthetic mechanic shop, Penelope, to get a replacement for his missing leg. Impatient and anxious to catch up with the others, Trigger is forced to wait and reflect on what he’s been doing up until this point as he gets the well-needed reality check of his life from Penelope. He gets in touch with Raz and after a frustrating conversation that leads to him softly rejecting his friend’s plea to come back to him, realizes how many bridges he’s burned along the way. Vahn on the other hand, has veered off course to go ‘home’ with one of the appointed soldiers, Erich Reid, who has been prompted to keep an eye on them in lieu of their suspicious connection with The Ghost but it quickly becomes apparent that they’re on the brink of a mental breakdown. Erich, realizing the fragility of the situation, pushes back on the Captain’s demands to rejoin the group and tries taking matters Into his own hands to understand and make a connection with the troubled hunter. His compassionate approach is successful and a bond is started between them, leading Vahn to confess that they sometimes hear a heartbeat that isn’t theirs and sees visions they can’t make sense of.
