I was an appliance repair tech, and @jeeves_ny is a fourth generation dry cleaner. Laundry sheets aren’t worth it!

I've been drinking Folgers decaf because that's the only brand I've been able to find other than store brands, and while I like it, I'd rather not be giving my money to a company that gives money to places I don't agree with, if you catch my drift.
If you enjoy decaf coffee, please give me your recommendations for tasty decaf coffee!

I was an appliance repair tech for 6 years -- here's why I left the field to teach people how to use and care for their appliances.

This is definitely more common in the winter (and more common in climates where the tap water gets noticeably colder in the winter), but it's good to know in case your dishwasher suddenly stops heating (or drying the dishes).

I was an appliance repair tech for six years, and I had to do this to reset SO MANY HEATERS for people who didn't realize their hot water needed to be primed before running their dishwasher!
An update on my vocal rest and healing! Thank you all for your continued support and patience while I do my best to get my voice back to normal--I really appreciate all of your kind words!

Someone suggested I do one of these pointer style videos while I'm on vocal rest, so here's laundry 101! This is a VERY basic rundown of how to do an "average" load of laundry, and includes helpful text tips for where to start.

Please DO NOT offer me medical advice or tell me to stop speaking--as I've mentioned in my previous posts about this, I am doing a LOT to heal my voice right now (and I know my body better than you do). :) #VocalRest #Dysphonia #laryngitis
My vocal rest update! Based on the rate my voice has been healing over the last week, I think it's going to take another week until my voice is totally back to normal, but I'm so happy with how much it has improved by now!

Otherwise, I may spiral again. Sharing this to spread awareness of what living with this disorder can be like, and to talk about how I handle it. #GeneralizedAnxietyDisorder #anxiety #MentalHealth #AnxietyAwareness #MentalHealthMatters
I was diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) in my early 20s, but I've suffered from it my entire life. Days like today are thankfully not as common for me as they once were, but waking up feeling dysregulated means I'll have to be very gentle with myself for the rest of the day.
Video version:
As this is autism awareness month, I especially appreciate others outside that community sharing this method of communication.”
“I appreciate the use of text to speech voices in the public space. My daughter is profoundly autistic, and while she is verbal, many kids that have been in classes and therapies with her are not. Text to speech may be their ONLY voice.
“I use TTS on all my ebooks that I can’t get in audiobook. Chronic migraines triggered now by eyeball reading have left that as being the way I can still read accessibly. So the disability representation is actually greatly appreciated.”
“There’s lots of people in the world who use AAC to communicate. Needing to use an accommodation to interact with the world is natural, as our world isn’t always accessible to all.”
TTS technology has come a long way since then, making speech accessible to those who may otherwise struggle to communicate.
Finally, I would like to leave you with some of the comments I received on my other video, as I feel they are important to share:
By the late 1950s, the first computer-based speech-synthesis systems debuted, and the first computer-based general English text-to-speech system was developed at the Electrotechnical Laboratory in Japan by Noriko Umeda in 1968.
In 1938, Homer Dudley, an American engineer working for Bell Labs, invented the vocoder, which was the first electronic device that synthesized human speech.
The earliest known predecessor to modern TTS was built by German-Danish scientist Christian Gottlieb Kratzenstein in 1779. It was a model of the human vocal tract that was capable of producing the 5 long vowel sounds A, E, I, O, and U, and was able to do so without the use of electricity.
In addition to being used by those on the autism spectrum who are nonverbal, TTS is also widely used by those with visual impairments and reading impairments as well.
TTS stands for “text-to-speech,” and is a speech synthesis system that converts text to audible speech. It is part of a broader system of communication known as AAC, or Augmentative and Alternative Communication.
Because this month is Autism Awareness Month and because TTS is widely used by those on the autism spectrum who are also on the nonverbal spectrum, I wanted to use my platform to speak about TTS for a moment.
I’m on complete vocal rest because I recently lost my voice and am trying to heal so I can speak again.
Last week, I shared a video using TTS, or “text-to-speech,” and I received a lot of comments that made me think more about accessibility tools (like TTS), and how we perceive them.
