Diana and Bacchus (Fall) Anton Kern 1747. The Spring allegory with Flora and Venus is depicted in light pastel-like colors. Its pendant - also hung as such - takes up the theme of Fall with the figure of Bacchus crowned with vine leaves. The paintings probably come from a set of the Four Seasons. Their intended use is unclear: They may have served as wall decoration or as decoration for the coach used for the Saxon-Bavarian wedding in 1747. Kern's various commissions for this celebration as well as the format and material employed support this thesis.
