After today’s picture description, l have written a poem inspired by this scene.
This is a striking black & white capture with a dramatic, almost gothic atmosphere.
In the foreground, a small grassy mound rises gently, its surface textured and slightly uneven. Just beyond it sits an old stone church, solid and weathered, its walls built from rough, pale blocks that catch the light in patches.
The building is simple but dignified, with a steeply pitched roof and a small bell tower perched at the front peak.
A tall, arched doorway with heavy wooden doors faces outward, and above it, a narrow, pointed window adds to the church’s traditional, almost medieval character.
The light is low and strong from the sun
& the sky is darkened dramatically, fading from a deep charcoal at the top to a pale glow near the horizon.
To the right of the church stands a tall, leafless tree. Its bare branches spread outward like veins or cracks, silhouetted sharply against the bright sky.
The sun glows behind it, creating a halo effect that outlines the intricate network of branches.
In the distance, faint outlines of houses sit low on the horizon, barely visible. Overall, the image feels still and contemplative, with a quiet sense of isolation, both peaceful and slightly haunting.
Finally our picture is finished with a simple, white border frame. And now for my poem.
I call it…Where Light Meets Stone
Beneath a sky that darkens into thought,
The old church leans on time itself,
Its stones remembering hands long gone,
Its doorway closed, yet never empty.
A tree stands watch in skeletal grace,
Each branch a question cast in light,
The sun caught gently in its grasp,
Like a secret it cannot quite keep.
No voices stir the gravel path,
No footsteps press the waiting ground,
Only shadow and silence meet
Where light and memory are bound.
And here, between the earth and sky,
The world grows still enough to hear
The quiet echo of all things
That once were loud and linger here.
