A nice day for collecting sea food
in the intertidal. Sugar kelp (Saccharina latissima) and dulse (Palmaria palmata)
Graph of CO2 concentrations for the past 800,000 years from the Antarctic ice cores, showing current CO2 levels of 430 ppm are far, far higher than any level over this period, which never exceeded 300 ppm. Also shown is the emergence of Homo sapiens around 200,000 years ago -- so CO2 levels are higher than we've ever experienced.
You are here.
We've breached 430 ppm CO2.

The christmas chocolate tennis racket from Bergen (Norway)! Since the 70s a "must-have" for people in Bergen, nobody knows why. Since I live in Bergen I have to have some, of course😊

Hi Trine, have you checked which species this is, or are? My experience from aquaria is that it could also be colony forming diatoms, somtimes they look very much like Pylaiella or Ectocarpus-
But what is the environmental status of European waters? Consult the following paper for an overview:

I think the general hypothesis was that hybridization would decrease over time, and there was a publication about it some years ago. You have nice weather! Have a great stay!
How is it going with Fucus serratus in the area, and are there hybrids to be seen?

A re-examination of Laminaria gunneri reveals it to be synonymous with Hedophyllum nigripes (Laminariales, Phaeophyceae) www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....
Analyzing kelps from Berlevåg fitting Foslie's description of Laminaria gunneri (from 1885) showed that it was Hedophyllum nigripes 😊
