Check our latest pre-print where I’m a second author. We gathered evidence on the brain and nerve cord being specified autonomously by isolating blastomeres in two different annelid species. Great collaboration with @nicolewebster.bsky.social, @allancarbal.bsky.social and @biyolokum.bsky.social.

Come join me in Canada 🍁! I'm recruiting a funded PhD student for fall 2026. My lab answers questions about how snails actually grow their shell using evo-devo techniques.

A phylogeny suggesting that yeast and bacteria and invertebrate animals

A phylogeny suggesting that yeast and bacteria and invertebrate animals

Do better @oxfordinstruments.bsky.social
I was looking for a nice diagram of the most used model organisms and came across this phylogenetic horror. No yeast and bacteria are not invertebrate animals... 🤦‍♀️

I'd love to hear some thoughts about this! My phylogenetics theory is a little rusty! Non-monophyly of Deuterostomia?

I have unkind thoughts about the term Systems Biology. Not the concept, just the term.

My lab group is interested in understanding the genetic and developmental mechanisms behind the evolution of novel phenotypes (evo-devo). I am seeking a curious and motivated student interested in biomineralization and/or molluscs to join my team. The aim of my research is to understand how the shell of molluscs has evolved into so many different forms by understanding the developmental mechanisms regulating biomineralization via the mantle.

We are a new lab helping to develop a slipper snail (Crepidula atrasolea) to test fundamental evolution and development questions. As a member of our lab, you will have the freedom to tailor your project to your interests, ideally relating to the genetics, development, and role of the nervous system in shell formation in gastropods. Depending on your project and research goals, you will have the opportunity to learn microinjection, CRISPR, hybridization chain reaction in situ hybridization, immunohistochemistry, confocal microscopy, animal husb

Today's the deadline to submit an abstract for #PanAmEvoDevo in Chile. I wish I could go, but it doesn't match a semester break in Canada. #evodevo meetings.embo.org/event/24-dev...
