Finally can add a new country for my work travel, China. First time here but probably won't be last. It's weird but why does every hotel in East / Southeast Asia looks like a luxury resort....like this is a regular Hilton hotel in Guangzhou.

I'll say it once and I'll say it again, some of the most amazing places are truly far off the beaten path. This place in Kurume, Japan serves a delicious unagi dish and the deep-fried fish bones r surprisingly good. The ambience is also top-notch.

Whenever I can't go sightseeing during a work trip, it normally gets compensated by food. Fukuoka's food scene is something else. From their famous motsunabe, tarako tamago, or fresh squid sashimi, it's all delicious and leagues above Tokyo.

People always say that Hakata Ramen is one of the best in Japan and after eating it, I can wholeheartedly agree. I can see why one of my coworkers flies from Tokyo to Hakata every weekend to eat their ramen and then go back.

I know I haven't posted much but that's because I've been sitting on my butt in the office due to the CA heat...but now I'm back traveling (for work)...

First off, a place I've always wanted to go to, Fukuoka, Japan.

All hail the Yattai!!!

Spent the weekend camping and then when you come down, there's a botanical garden nearby for a casual walk courtesy of the University of California, Riverside. The garden is large, has plenty of shades, and cheap parking. Nothing can b better.

It's a long weekend so of course it's perfect for camping. This is the Silverwood Lake in Hesperia, CA. You have to reserve the plot ahead of time but the camp is a brisk 10 min. walk to the lake with all the fish you can catch and grill

Been too busy with work lately so it's hard to go play. Fortunately El Presidio in Santa Barbara is close-by. It's an old Spanish Fort (now museum) tracing back to the early days of California. Just a good place to unwind and relax

It's a lot cooler today so let me introduce you to one of my favorite trails, Carbon Canyon. The reason I love this trail is because it has such a wide variety of wildlife and plants. Best of all, at the end of the trail there's a redwood forest.

Since it's too hot today, it's best to be inside. Even then, there are plenty of places to go in SoCal. This is the Hilbert Museum, home to some insane original production art of Disney Classics along with art that highlights life in CA. It's also free.

If you're a fan of succulents this is a fun trail. Part of the Robert E. Ward Nature Preserve, the Nora Kuttner trail takes you on a path to see a field of succulents...I have never seen such a high concentration of cacti in one place before.

Got back to CA yesterday and immediately went for some bossam and naengmyeon. This is why I can't leave CA. Where else am I going to find ice cold noodles and pork belly at a moment notice after landing? The cold noodles is perfect on a hot day.

The Riverbanks Zoo in SC is definitely an interesting place. Split by the Saluda River, the zoo has a botanical garden on one side and the main zoo on the other. They have an exhibit that will let you get within 10ft / 15ft of a white rhino!!

It's a holiday in the US so naturally it's a good time for a quick road trip before the flight back to CA. Heading to Columbia and stopping here along the way. This is the Glencairn Garden, a garden featuring plants fr. around the world.

So many parks in NC with lakes and plenty of shades. It's a great place to be to beat the summer heat in Charlotte; bonus pt. if you're a birder. I saw some duck species here that I didn't see anywhere else. This is the Col. Francis J. Beaty Park.

The great thing about NC is that no matter where u go, a great place for a hike is only minutes away. This is the McAlpine Creek Park where the trail takes u away from civilization and makes it feels like ur alone in nature surrounded by forests.

First full day in NC and what better way to spend it than to spend the morning at the Carolina Raptor Center. Not only do they rescue injured raptors they also put on an educational show to teach ppl about these birds of prey.

First time in Charlotte so of course we must check out Charlotte city's skyline at night. The view of the skyline from Romare Bearden Park at night is just awe-inspiring. It's something that's worth checking out at least once when visiting.

Unfortunately, today is a traveling day so not much to see. Got a one hour flight from Mankato back to Minneapolis to catch a flight to North Carolina. Dinner in Mankato was delicious. The pork belly w/ gochujang sauce was melt-in-your-mouth tender.

If you're a fan of nature then Minnesota is not short of it. However, I do recommend going to the Minneopa State Park, South of Minneapolis, where you can find trails, campground, waterfall, and a 🦬 safari (I couldn't go due to rain) waiting for you.

Lastly on the third floor of the Minneapolis Institute of Art, you have the European Arts. There's everything from Renaissance Art that feels lifelike, a frikin suit of armor armor, a recreation of a palatial ball room, and impressionism.

The 2nd floor of the Minneapolis Institute of Art is primarily focused on Asia. They've also recreated entire living spaces for each country inside the museum. There r also art depictions of "The Floating World" mentioned in FX Shogun.

On the road again and this time it's to the twin cities of Minneapolis / St.Paul. If you're here I strongly recommend visiting the Minneapolis Institute of Art. This place has three floors and is massive. We'll go over each one. This is the 1st.

If you're a birder then I have the trail for you. This is the Brightwater Trail located in Huntington Beach, CA. The trailhead is a bit hard to find as it's hidden in a neighborhood. No shade but the ocean breeze more than makes up for it.

Once you're done exploring Balboa Park, I strongly recommend getting tacos. San Diego has some of the best tacos restaurants anywhere in the US so it's hard to go wrong. If taco is not your thing, then seafood is another strong alternative.

Close to the Timken Museum is the proper SD Museum of Art. This one is home to some truly historical art pieces across the world. The museum is also home to models of major architectural buildings from across the world. It's worth a visit.

Another museum that I think is worth visiting in Balboa Park is the Timken Museum of Art. This Museum is small but it's home to some eclectic collection of art that really does highlight the regional differences of the era in Europe, plus it's free.

If you forget to read the weather report and get rained on, Balboa Park also has a plethora of museums to escape the weather. This is the Museum of US highlighting the local history. I remember it as the Museum of Our Alcoholic History.

If you're interested in getting your steps in with a view, definitely visit the Japanese Garden in the park. The garden offers plenty of photogenic spots as you descend from the top garden to the viewing platform and pond at the bottom.
