Tap to pay is finally here! METRO now has this available on every bus and at all rail platforms for your use. As long as you have your tap enabled credit card or mobile wallet you can board the bus. Don't worry you can still pay with cash, but this is a great addition.

Story from the Houston Chronicle titled: "Exclusive: Houston slowed downtown trains for politics, not safety, emails suggest." There is a quote from LINK Houston Policy Director Peter Eccles. "The signals project can achieve its goals without removing preemption. Riders appreciate that the city and Metro reversed this change at 16 of 26 intersections, and also their intent to restore reliable service," Eccles said. "Nonetheless, Houston's daily transit riders require more than good intentions. Trips on the Red Line are slower and less reliable than before, and they will stay that way until preemption is restored at all 26 intersections. We urge METRO to fix this mistake now.”

Red line riders have been delayed for over a month now. The City and METRO could fix this today. We will continue fighting alongside you until it is restored systemwide. Until then we encourage you to continue sharing your stories & sign our petition at bit.ly/RestoreRedLine

Picture of METRO buses at a transit center with text that reads, "Do you know how public transit is funded?"

Public transit is a public good, but Texas isn’t investing in it.
In 2023 METRO received:
$899M from local sales tax
$251M from the federal government
$38M from fares
$6M from tolls
$0 from the State of Texas
Imagine what we could do with a portion of TxDOT's $100B 10YR budget

Did you know 25% of METRO’s annual sales tax revenue goes to Houston, Harris County & nearby cities? Through the General Mobility Program, over $4 billion has supported street repairs, bridges, traffic signals, sidewalk repair & drainage improvements since inception.
