Rydström said if he understands MLS rules right, #Crew96 can replace Abou Ali with a DP while the forward is out, but once he's back (presumably next season), they have to get back to three DPs. "We will see (what) we do."

Asked about Daniel Gazdag, Rydström said sometimes you can't give a good answer to plays. He said he doesn't think he's been able to unlock Gazdag. He said the question is how he can get an end product.

Rydström said #Crew96 has had some meetings about what to do after Abou Ali's injury. He said he felt the team was coming together, but Abou Ali was the main guy in that mix. "We have players that haven't been on the pitch that much that will get the opportunity."

Rydström said the medical check showed he could go... then he couldn't. He said he had a similar situation in Sweden where a player finished the game with the injury.

Asked to explain what happened after Wessam Abou Ali, #Crew96 head coach Henrick Rydström said he thought it was initially a muscle injury. He said he was talking to his staff about who should go in and asked the medical staff if he could play or not.

This is the first game I’m perplexed by what Henrick Rydström was looking for tonight. This wasn’t Atlanta. You didn’t need to be trying to combat the counter. Why was the lineup unchanged? This game called for attacking wingers. Not multiple fullbacks.

Speaking of DPs, it took a potential season-ending injury and two more attacking subs to come before Daniel Gazdag came off the bench. Who made the call that a former MLS Best XI is now the fifth option? He showed immediately why he has to be involved.

Unless something miraculous comes out, it appears Abou Ali’s season is over… again. If that’s the case, the Crew’s season might be done over as well. You’re essentially down two DPs and the other (despite the goal today) looks way off the mark.

Even before the injury, #Crew96 didn’t look anything like a week ago in Atlanta. Orlando was in control and guys were playing too individualistic. Looked like they thought they won at kickoff.

This changing of positions is what made the Black & Gold so hard to defend at times under Wilfried Nancy. I like the tweak by Henrick Rydström to throw something different at Atlanta after a first half that left plenty to be desired.

You had Max on the right wing, Herrera dropped into a fullback before running to be a forward, Rossi dropping off as a No. 10 after starting this play from the left, Amundsen making a run into the box, something we haven't seen enough of.

Abou Ali is showing exactly why the team saw in him. His aerial ability had been on display before, but that second goal was something special. I'd like to see him get more involved in creating for others, but those others have to be better as well.

This may be a team that has the ball less than in recent seasons, but can be lethal when they have it... if the rest of the attackers get going.
