I appreciate how you kept our focus locked tight (like our turtles) on what Leo and Raph could see and understand. There's room on this earth for all kinds of POVs, but because of the limits you set on the reader, the fear and the helpless confusion that the turtles feel is shared by your audience! Bravo! Excellent technique. And the torture? Horrifyingly sadistic! One can't speak? The other can't eat? There's no way out? There's no demands? No one to punch? Nothing to exploit? Just as surely as Raphael knows that Leo is beating himself up for not being perfect, Leo knows that when Raph kicks him and calls him an asshole, he's just worried. Leo and Donnie know he won't be completely honest about his wounds. All three of his brothers know he'll fight them about endangering themselves to rescue him. And even Casey! His whole crew knows that while he might not say 'thank you' for the rescue or 'i love you guys' on the way home, when he lets them fuss over him, when he lets them chide him, when he lets them decide what's best without putting up a fight, that's practically the same thing in Raph language. I love your version(s) of the Turtles so much! This fic reads like the *best* kind of TMNT comic. I can practically see the page layouts: gutters and spot blacks and glistening white foam on the incoming choppy water. The first time I read this fic it was still in progress, and it felt like I was holding my breath along with Raphael. OMG. I still get chills re-reading it! Chills from the suspense, of course, but also from the cold rain and the November tides. (Also from the wet rats. UGH! Nobody wants wet rats. And that close to the water front, those were probably big-ass wharf rats, too. aaaaaa.) That the rest of the clan shows up and saves the day is such a relief.
