“And here I thought Mikey was staying here to make sure you get some rest.” He whispered, his voice partially covered by Mikey’s sleeping mumbles. “Well, you know him, no comfortable beds can get the better of him. And by ‘no’, I of course mean ‘all’.” Don replied. Leo shook his head amicably. “He has been working hard on trying to find equipment and toys for them.” He considered. He sat next to them, placing the items aside. “Finding toys for the children isn’t too hard, we’re starting to get a decent collection, but he’s been going around trying to find entertaining items for her, which is much harder to find.” Don hummed. “Yes, he has been telling me about her lingering boredom. I tried showing her some of my equipment, but uh…” He paused to chuckle.” I think sadly my genius might be a little too much for her to understand.” Leo softly laughed.

From the stench of the guns he’d seen so much, to the particular synthetic leather and equipment they would use. And that smell in the air… He couldn’t do this. It had been the one thing he had dreaded the most. He couldn’t… He- He… “Adam!” The inner doors of the room opened, and an army of EPF soldiers flooded in, weapons in hand and a strong and protective black and gray uniform covering them from head to toe, not leaving a single inch of skin visible. His ex-master’s voice rang through the room, echoing around the walls like a pinball. Adam shuddered. “Make sure not to destroy the specimen.” His ex-master ordered his men. “I’m not quite done with it yet. I need to make an example out of it.” Adam flinched. His eyes barely even noticed the soldiers charging for him. He couldn’t move, couldn’t breathe. He felt like the walls had shrunk against him, pressing him to the point of suffocating him. That voice… That dreaded voice… He’d never been so afraid of it before.

Leo paced around the living room. He looked at the time. Six a.m. Almost sunrise. He took his shellcell, staring at the three missed calls he’d done in the last hour that went unanswered. He glanced at the door of the lair, hoping in vain that it would somehow open and that their missing family member would return, stating his phone had just lost battery and he was fine. He walked in circles for another few minutes. He often stayed awake when one of them was out, waiting to make sure they would return home. And normally, it would happen near the middle of the night, and they would all get a few hours of sleep. Six o’five a.m. Still no sign of life.

On one of these evenings, the others loudly cheering woke her up with a twitch and a hiss of pain. She groaned, her hands on her plastron. “Hey Mama, are you asleep?” Mikey asked as he poked his head inside the room. She huffed in answer. What did he want? Couldn’t he see she was in pain and trying to sleep? “Perfect! Guys! She’s awake!” He shouted. She grunted in disapproval while soothing the babies who started tiredly whining. Mikey gave her a sheepish grin. “Whoops. Sorry babies.” He apologized only too late. She purposefully ignored the group of four huddling around the entrance as she picked the now awake baby, soothing him back to sleep with some slow rubs and nuzzles. Luckily, he hadn’t fully woken them up, so she wouldn’t have to deal with a baby who only slept half a night and would be as grouchy as she was. It happened only too often in her life. The others waited impatiently for her to be done before pulling on her shell. She grunted, turning herself a little more in the bed. “Come on, Mama, we wanna show you something.” Mikey insisted. He pulled some more, his feet scraping the blankets. “Nnng… You’re… heavy…” He breathed out. He paused, catching his breath. “Come on, help me out here. You’ll like it, I promise.” He said. “Tsh. Aight, come here.” Raph decided. He turned her to her back, and she glared at him. Rolling his eyes, he simply ignored it, grunting as he pulled her heavy weight with him. She sighed, relenting and placing her head on his shoulder. This better be good. “Well, what do you think?” Mikey asked him as he opened the door of the storage room next to the nest. This was… not a storage room anymore…
