Because the bass drum part for the song I was drilling doesn’t have heel-toe in the intro, which was the primary focus of that particular session, obviously.

If anyone’s curious, this is the intro to “Age of the Goddess” by @emasculator_bdm slowed down to 115bpm quarter note click.
A simple exercise that I do often is find a part in any given song I could be better at, slow it down with a metronome, and play it on repeat with 8 counts of rest in between each take. I’ll do this for about 5 minutes at a time.
Practice is taking all this information and going back to square one and drilling it over and over again until you can execute said parts with ease.
Practice is being honest about where you are sloppy and examining the reasons why. Practice is slowing the part down so you can pinpoint just exactly what needs work.
