#Research group meetings are privileged moments where everybody speaks, everybody listens, ideas and suggestions come up, and common planning is made. And, mostly, they are fun! I love and I'm proud of this group! @quercusilex92.bsky.social

So, the good outcomes largely overcame the bad ones...I'm grateful for all the experiences I had here and I'm looking forward to seeing what my academic future will provide.

I pedalled roughly 15000 km for bike commuting; I got wet in the field; I worked hard (sometimes extremely hard) but I had lot of fun!

I coordinated a demanding but highly rewarding COST Action watson-cost.eu; I authored and coauthored a few cool papers; I gave some newspaper interviews; I organized conferences; I travelled a lot, visited surprising places, and attended interesting meetings and conferences;

Moreover, I built a research group formed by lovely people; I led the establishment of a beautiful #experimental #catchment; I taught thousands of hours and had stimulating discussions with many motivated students (and some not so bright ones); danielepenna.wixsite.com/redellapietra

What did I accomplish in this decade? I interacted with many nice scientists within and outside the department, and I established relationships that went beyond scientific collaborations and led to friendship...this is surely the best gift of these ten years!

I was not able to help some people I wanted to help; and (to be honest, unexpectedly) I did not receive a promotion.

Today, ten years ago, at 41, I started my position @ the University of Florence (pictures from 2016).

What did I not accomplish in this decade? I had #papers and #proposals rejected; I did not receive funding to build a lab and to buy an #isotope laser spectroscope (see thread for the rest).

Happy for being hosted in the Sibillini Mountains National Park with #academic colleagues to give a seminar to professional geologists on #hydrological and #ecohydrological #processes in these #mountain #catchments @ecohydrologylab.bsky.social

Happy for participating to a workshop on #Artificial #Intelligence in #teaching @ University of Florence. There are limitations but also lots of potentials to explore.

I wrote a diary: this #paper took me 172 days, distributed over 5 years of discontinuous work, always alone, whenever I found a free moment. I started collecting the data and manually creating the #database (no AI at all!) in December 2020, in COVID times. Great satisfaction now to see this out!

During the growing season, soil and plant water had a dominant summer origin but seasonality had a major role on their temporal origin.
