There are two!! meetings on insect-associated (fungal and other) pathogens taking place soon:
1) The Arthropod-Fungal Associations workshop (3rd edition) in Łódź, Poland, 20-22 May 2026 #AFAworkshop
2) The Insect Pathology Short Course in Ithaca, New York, 7-12 June 2026

The 3rd edition of our ARTHROPOD-FUNGAL ASSOCIATIONS workshop is taking place in Łódź, Poland, 20-22 May 2026. If you're interested in fungal parasites and pathogens, then you ought to register! docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F... #AFAworkshop
📢CALL FOR COLLABORATION📢
My PhD student Warre is looking for flies infected with #Laboulbeniales fungi. Especially Musca domestica!
If you have any, store in 96% ethanol or in the freezer, record on @inaturalist.bsky.social, and/or contact Warre.

The first #C4inV4 workshop was hosted by our #LFEE lab at the Biology Centre CAS and @fscusb.bsky.social in České Budéjovice. Focused on #citizenscience, it resulted in an occurrence dataset published on @gbif.org: doi.org/10.15468/zg4...
Already used by Native Americans to stop bleeding wounds and cuts, Hericium americanum – lion's mane or bear's head tooth – is Vermont's official state mushroom!

We wish you a joyful holiday season! May your New Year flourish with abundance, resilience, and good connections, like a healthy mycelium beneath the forest floor🍄🎄🍄🟫🌲

PS: You should look at his #EntomoFun paper in Scientific Data, presenting an #openaccess database with global records of fungal–insect associations in Hypocreales: doi.org/10.1038/s415....
This is it! Frederik De Wint is defending his #PhD on entomopathogenic fungi and interactions with their hosts along environmental gradients. It was a pleasure to work together with Frederik and I am looking forward to continue working together (he applied for a postdoc position in my group).
Researchers have compiled the first fungal checklist for Honduras, resulting in a dataset containing 1365 species across 4011 records.

Since I am getting more and more invited for presentations, workshops, and roundtable discussions, I decided to add a PRESENTING page to my website, drawing inspiration from friends and colleagues. Have a look if you're curious about what I offer. www.dannyhaelewaters.com/presenting/
Our lab’s first paper is out! 📢
A multi-year effort resulted in the checklist of fungi for #Honduras — a major milestone that is the starting point for future research. Congratulations to Libelje on publishing the first chapter of her #PhD! doi.org/10.3897/myco... #LFEE #LuminaQuaeruntur
We are inviting applications for a postdoctoral researcher to support the Laboratory of Fungal Ecology and Evolution, and join our project studying obligatory multitrophic interactions. jobs.bc.cas.cz/en/detail/266 #LFEE #LuminaQuaeruntur #postdoc #hiring
One of our student offices is ready with desks and chairs. There are some unoccupied seats, but not for long... The lab has open positions for 1 postdoc and 2 fully funded PhD students!
Postdoc: jobs.bc.cas.cz/en/detail/266
PhD: jobs.bc.cas.cz/en/detail/271

The lab will soon also advertise a new PhD position. This student will be studying either multitrophic interactions of bats, bat flies, and microfungi, or entomopathogenic fungi. Spread the word! #hiring #LFEE #newPI

Received GREAT news today. My application for a GAČR Junior STAR grant was successful! An additional five-year grant, with funds to hire PhD students & postdocs. More ads coming soon! #LFEE #CzechScienceFoundation

But what is that slug doing over there?🐌🍄🤔
Always a good time to promote our paper on #mycophagy (= consumption of fungi by other orgamisms) in invertebrates, a massive global review by former #TeamLaboul member Brianna Santamaria. doi.org/10.3390/jof9...
Shoutout to my PhD student Libelje Mortier who finalized her first PhD chapter, the #checklist of fungi for Honduras, and submitted it to #MycoKeys! A huge effort with the help of many, including @curataceae.bsky.social and the amazing Meike Piepenbring. #LFEE #LuminaQuaeruntur 🍄
This is our former #TeamLaboul member. Please donate if you can! #SlavaUkraini 🇺🇦
Postdoc position available at our Laboratory of Fungal Ecology and Evolution at the Biology Centre of the @czechacademy.bsky.social, Institute of Entomology, České Budějovice, Czechia. #LFEE #newPI 🇨🇿
Currently in Warsaw with @jzpawlowska.bsky.social:
- wrote one manuscript
- finished instructions for sampling campaign
- halfway finalizing one grant application
- added the first Belgian fungal records to #FunDive project
And this is only the second day! 💪🏼
Thank you so much @ukladybirds.bsky.social, for joining us in České Budějovice🙏 These were such inspiring three days. Looking forward to write the perspective on priorities for fungal #citizenscience!
Everything starts small: the first slide of what will become the lab's permanent slide collection at the Biology Centre of the Czech Academy of Sciences, Institute of Entomology. This likely is a #newspecies of bat fly-associated Arthrorhynchus from Papua New Guinea! 🪰🍄🇵🇬 #LFEE
60% of global extinctions have been caused, solely or in part, by invasive alien species—a staggering statistic from @ukladybirds.bsky.social's talk about leveraging #citizenscience data to tackle biological invasions. Part of our #VisegradFund #C4inV4 workshop in České Budějovice.
It is such a pleasure to be with you all - I am having a wonderful time immersed in the worlds of entomology and mycology (a perfect pair) during this fabulous workshop on cryptic fungi - thank you so much for inviting me @ukceh.bsky.social @exeter.ac.uk
📣 Just out: a comprehensive overview of the orders within the phylum Ascomycota, where—together with @michieldegroot.bsky.social, Aimée Blondelle, Michał Gorczak and @dhaelewa.bsky.social—we wrote about Laboulbeniomycetes.
