I haven’t watched Ehlers play all season but seeing him set up the game-winning goal in double overtime for Carolina made me sad.

If you haven’t seen “The Voice of Hind Rajab”, take the time.

Will there ever be accountability for her murder? At least these two senators are trying.

How come they keep spelling “open” wrong?

Does that street look closed to you? Only if you’re a car… and presumably that’s the real problem. #UrbanTruth

'Bell removed Romeo and Juliet from his syllabus because “in Act III, Romeo and Juliet have sex, and that falls under this very broadly defined sexuality [topics ban].” He also didn’t teach about Joan of Arc this semester.'

What an actual lack of freedom of speech looks like in universities. 3/3

Faculty Defect From Texas Publics, Citing Censorship Fed up with the state’s censoring of Plato, Joan of Arc and Romeo and Juliet, humanities professors are leaving Texas public institutions in pursuit of academic freedom.

'Texas A&M philosophy professor Martin Peterson is leaving the university after administrators told him in January that he couldn’t teach Plato’s Symposium in his philosophy class; they said the ancient Greek philosopher’s work violated the system’s restrictions on gender and sexuality content.' 1/3

Hat tip to Carl Wilson @carlzoilus.bsky.social for making the 2020s Protest Songs playlist that introduced me to that song (and many other good ones).

Hurray for the Riff Raff - Snake Plant (The Past Is Still Alive) (Official Lyric Video) YouTube video by Hurray for the Riff Raff

This Hurray for the Riff Raff song is from 2024 but new to me.

I love how the phrasing and melodies remind me of Canadian songwriters Joel Plaskett and Sarah Harmer (with a different voice, obvs).

Even during the "ceasefire", the Israelis are still demolishing entire villages in southern Lebanon with armored bulldozers. In fact, civilian contractors hired by the army receive pay which is based on the number of buildings destroyed.

Schumer voted against blocking the sale of these bulldozers.

Once they start actually publicizing the war crimes, a lot of people are going to start getting very uncomfortable.

I continue to find it mind-blowing that at least 70,000 people were killed in Gaza and Israel is still successfully preventing international journalists from entering the territory.

This is the sort of thing Canada (and other countries) could be pressuring them to change.

Was part of a community consultation for new parkette near Dufferin and Bloor and asked why the paved walkway in center had to be so ugly and wide. Was told design has to accommodate the city truck to drive in and get the garbage. We're literally designing a park around a truck!

Adding to this (we’ve got years of documentation). Fred Hamilton Park destruction last evening.

It’s weird they can’t do anything about it. The downtown progressives will look blankly at you when asked.

$80,000 for a part-time job that could be done remotely? I have definitely made some bad choices in my life.

(This story is doubly strange to me because Bobbi was my high school social studies teacher. She gave me a couch for my first apartment. I liked her. 🤷‍♀️

What you can't see in the pictures of pedestrian streets: the QUIET. Hundreds of people out, and all you hear are birds singing, the click of a bike mechanism, and the murmer of conversation.

Man, if we could pick a player who ended up as good as Scheifele, this crappy hockey season would be worth it.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Readout of meeting between NDP Leader Avi Lewis and Prime Minister Carney

NDP leader Avi Lewis had a productive meeting with Prime Minister Carney today, where he expressed the NDP’s concerns about the cost of living crisis facing Canadians, and solutions for addressing out-of-control grocery prices.

He also made it clear that the NDP urges the Liberal government to take seriously its commitments to protecting our public healthcare system by more strongly enforcing the Canada Health Act to prevent profiteering and privatization of healthcare, and reinforced his position that our country must take a clear moral stand against illegal acts of war and the impunity being granted to the US and Israel in Iran, Lebanon, and Palestine.

Finally, he urged the Prime Minister to take urgent action to address discriminatory delays in processing study permits for Palestinian graduate students that he and MP Jenny Kwan supported at Tuesday's press conference, standing behind the Palestinian Students and Scholars at Risk (PSSAR) Network.

The Centre for Policy Alternatives had the number at $40+ million a year for Winnipeg.

There hasn't been a lot of attempts to estimate it. I've been pestering cities for years to attempt to do it, with no response.

This is accurate, but incomplete. The biggest cost for Ottawa is when families move out to Carleton Place, etc, pay $0 in property taxes to Ottawa but use substantial municipal services.

Land use policies that drive families to satellite towns are the most expensive of all.

It makes sense. Who gets mail anymore? I’ve had a community mailbox almost 15 years and I check it maybe once a week. We go away for the winter and don’t pay Canada Post to hold our mail anymore.

I find this so weird. We've had community mailboxes (in a wide swath of St Vital) for many years.

Also, they're fine. Check it like every week or two. About 10% of the mail is mail I want, excluding packages which are very nice to receive in the locked parcel box.
