Another heat-wave is hitting Europe and France ! Consider registering your favourite stream in #DRYRivERS to follow whether it is still flowing or it is drying! #dryingrivers #citizenscience

We found some mixed results: no observed effect of the impoundments on leaf litter decomposition, a longitudinal effect on organic matter stocks, and a local effect of high diffusive CO2 and CH4 emissions downstream of one of the two impoundments.
We measured upstream and downstream of two small impoundments like this one, as well as at other reaches along the Tarentaine river network in France.
Our article about the local and longitudinal effects of small water impoundments on riverine carbon cycling is out now in River Research and Applications @tdatry.bsky.social @rsarremejane.bsky.social onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10....
Interested in #MolecularEcology, #IntermittentRivers, #MetacommunityTheory? We are looking for #MSCA applicants to analyse a unique dataset of hundreds of samples from www.dryver.eu. How metacommunities are organised in space/time in #DryingRiverNetworks ?

3/ CCL : connectivity counteracts the effects of drying in intermittent river communities. Drying further change the seasonal dynamic of communities.

Natural river drying is reducing the local biodiversity of aquatic communities and promoting the regional biodiversity by generating multiple successional stage across river networks.

Heat is driving western U.S. droughts
Higher temperatures caused by anthropogenic climate change made an ordinary drought into an exceptional drought that parched the American West from 2020-2022, according to a new study by UCLA, NOAA and CIRES scientists.

These incredible ponds (4700 m asl) were permanent 10y ago (left). Now dry (right) most of the dry season. Due to climate change and with the current population increases, water scarcity is worsening in the #Cochabamba region.
