Why #IntermittentRivers are excluded from management plans? Often stakeholders devalue them compared to perennial rivers due to aesthetic, recreational and biological reasons. A shift in paradigm is needed to protect our entire #RiverNetworks

Long journey ahead to attend the 2nd face-to-face @DryRiversRCN workshop @ FlatheadLake BS & represent @DRYvER_H2020. A week with many #IntermittentRivers colleagues & friends including @rstubbington @messamat. Last one @SevilletaFS was fun & productive:no doubt about this one!

Naturally #intermittentrivers are suffering this year too: excessively long/extensive dry spells, refuges in very poor condition (temperatures/algae/nutrients): have tipping points been crossed this summer? 🤔🤔 Illustration from the Albarine River, Ain.

Drought in intermittent river and ephemeral stream networks Intermittent rivers and ephemeral streams (IRES), those watercourses that periodically cease to flow or dry, are the world's most widespread type of river ecosystem. Our understanding of the natural ...

A severe drought hits France and many EU countries. It does not only affect perennial rivers and streams, but also natural #IntermittentRivers, #DryingRiverNetworks. Some review and thoughts:@r_sarremejane @messamat @INRAE_Lyon_Gre @EcohydrologyEds

For #WorldWaterDay2022, let’s consider the rich biodiversity and the many ecosystem functions and services provided by healthy river networks, including their natural, non-perennial sections #IntermittentRivers, #DryingRiverNetworks, @DRYvER_H2020,@smirescost

Preparing the updated & improved version of #IRBAS, the international OA database compiling #biodiversity data from #IntermittentRivers #DryingRiverNetworks. Simple to use, but such a complex underlying structure! To be out soon thanks to @DRYvER_H2020 & @EcoFlowS , stay tuned !

Great lead by @Julie_Crabot @EcoFlowS showing that current WFD invertebrate-based bioindicators are not able to detect organic contamination when annual flow intermittence >30-40%. Given the prevalence of #IntermittentRivers #DryingRiverNetworks, alternatives are now needed.

No fieldwork today. On my way to #Paris to present @DRYvER_H2020, key challenges and perspectives on #IntermittentRivers, #DyringRiverNetworks and the starting #OneWater 10y long national research program on water science and management to the @INRAE_France Board of Directors

Register to @SEFS12_DUBLIN and enjoy the excellent program, including the Special Session we co-organise with @zszcsabai @rstubbington. A lot of novel and exciting research on #DryingRiverNetworks, #IntermittentRivers, #TemporaryStreams! More:

Global prevalence of non-perennial rivers and streams Nature - Non-perennial rivers and streams are mapped globally, showing that more than half of rivers worldwide experience no flow for at least one day per year.

Fantastic lead by @messamat of a wonderful team of colleagues #IntermittentRivers as a new paradigm - massive implications for river sciences and management. Time to change our perceptions of streams and rivers in the Anthropocene!

Drying in newly #IntermittentRivers due to #climatechange leads to higher variability of invertebrate communitiescongrats @Julie_Crabot, @Ecoflows, Petr and Marek for this (most likely) last 2020 manuscript. See you in 2021 !

Everyone loves naturally #IntermittentRivers, including some endangered and beautiful species. Here is a young Lynx lynx using a dry riverbed to disperse, somewhere in the Jura, Eastern France @EcoFlowS, @DRYvER_H2020, @1000IRP

Drying, as an agent of river network fragmentation, promotes the role of dispersal in determining aquatic invertebrate metacommunities of headwaters. #DryingRiverNetworks, #IntermittentRivers. Congrats @mailys_gauthier,@EcoFlowS, @LEHNA_lab !!!
