It took a long way, but FINALLY!
Happy to share our efforts to investigate how #drying alters the #biodiversity control of 🍂decomposition in #RiverNetworks.
We found that JUST 6 days of drying⚠️ halves decomposition rates due to structural community shifts🪲➡️🦠

How does #biodiversity control 🍂decomposition in #RiverNetworks?
In our new Ecological Monographs paper, we show that 🪲macroinvertebrate key taxa drive decomposition, while #FunctionalDiversity reduces decomposition #variability! Network-scale #BEF in action, check it out!

Hi there!
I made it back to social media after some rest
I am a river-lover, trail runner & #FreshwaterEcologist working at @um.es exploring how #Drying affects #Biodiversity - #EcosystemFunctioning relationships across #RiverNetworks.
Looking forward to catching up quickly with freshwater folks!
Naturally #DryingRivers support unique #Biodiversity & numerous #EcosystemServices. Rivers that dry because of #HumanActivities may not: ignoring this distinction could undermine #management of #RiverNetworks & exacerbate risks to ecosystems & people.

Why #IntermittentRivers are excluded from management plans? Often stakeholders devalue them compared to perennial rivers due to aesthetic, recreational and biological reasons. A shift in paradigm is needed to protect our entire #RiverNetworks
