"Capturing the Electrical Activity of all Cortical Neurons:
Are Solutions Within Reach?" in Advanced Science, link to the paper: doi.org/10.1002/advs... 5/5

Although there has been some discussion about this recently (E.g., the #Science Corp. mentions it in their update: science.xyz/news/biohybr... ), we are making the first attempt to systematically assess the BN of the best available probes (high-density rigid, flexible, and biohybrid electrodes). 4/5
In close connection with this, we are introducing the term “ #Butcher_Number ” in the literature as a valuable parameter for assessing insertion-related damage and acute recording quality (first mentioned by #Markus_Meister @mameister4.bsky.social whom we thank for the term in the paper). 3/5
But scaling this is far from trivial. What are the theoretical and practical limits for #BCIs interfacing with the neural tissue? We are exploring this in our recent review, led by #Gergely_Katona (co-first-authored by #Attila_Kaszas and me), together with other brilliant members from our lab. 2/5
As we saw in the latest #Neuralink Summer 2025 update, the more electrodes we have, the more neurons can be recorded. They are planning to implant into multiple brain regions, ultimately aiming to reach every cell in the whole brain.

The coolest result, IMO, is active prediction of upcoming words in the sequence, suggesting that hippocampus is involved in the process of using information about current words to predict future words, even in the absence of consciousness.
Incredible effort from a massive team led by Charlie Windolf and Erdem Varol to develop DREDge motion correction algorithm of high resolution neural data across species including humans is finally out in Nature Methods! It was an honor to be involved! www.nature.com/articles/s41...
DREDge is a software tool for motion correction of high-density electrophysiology recordings. It can handle action potential or local field potential data and is demonstrated on a variety of acute or chronic recordings from humans, nonhuman primates and mice.

All Credit goes to first and last authors, I am just a co-author:) thank you for reposting!
Here, our team have conducted the longest and most thorough evaluation available on the electrical and material performance of chronic implantable bare-die and PDMS-coated CMOS chips.

It was an honour to contribute even a little bit to this project and to work in this awesome collaboration! If you are interested in the packaging, accelerated aging, and biocompatibility of neural implants, check out our new paper!
Could you please add me, if still possible? We are doing high-density in vivo human Neuropixels recording in the OR!:) thanks!
Could you please add me as well, if still possible? We are doing high-density intraoperative Neuropixels recordings in human, single unit, LFP, cognitive tasks all involved, thanks!
I would like to join too, working on human in vivo single unit and LFP analysis!:)
