A scrappily coloured drawing of a monster. It is a large bird creature emerging from a cracked egg, with it's jaw bent back as a creature made of many arms and porcelain faces emerges from it's mouth.

A dark inky blood is splattered over the creature and dripping onto the floor.

Opening text of a thread by Palantir from X
Because we get asked a lot.

The Technological Republic, in brief.

1. Silicon Valley owes a moral debt to the country that made its rise possible. The engineering elite of Silicon Valley has an affirmative obligation to participate in the defense of the nation.

2. We must rebel against the tyranny of the apps. Is the iPhone our greatest creative if not crowning achievement as a civilization? The object has changed our lives, but it may also now be limiting and constraining our sense of the possible.

3. Free email is not enough. The decadence of a culture or civilization, and indeed its ruling class, will be forgiven only if that culture is capable of delivering economic growth and security for the public.

4. The limits of soft power, of soaring rhetoric alone, have been exposed. The ability of free and democratic societies to prevail requires something more than moral appeal. It requires hard power, and hard power in this century will be built on software.

Palantir put out a 22-point summary of their CEO's book The Technological Republic. It's pitched as a defence of the West, but if you read it through the VDA framework, verification, deliberation, accountability, what it's actually doing looks rather different.

I'm chairing a panel on the impact of generative AI on the tabletop industry this year at UKGE. One of the panelists, an academic working in AI ethics, has put together a short survey about it. If folks could fill it out that would be incredible. Thank you!

Financial times are horrendously hard at the moment because of having to pay for a private ADHD diagnosis AND a new mattress (ah, the chronic pain / hEDS tax). If you would like to buy a print from my website, now is a good time?

Damn.. the new Folding Ideas video is really good but also.. really quite tragic.

It makes me so deeply sad and angry that something so devoid of substance and soul as Mr Beast's awful shit is so widely viewed.

Weird ttrpg problems.

We want to do a second print run of Locus, which means we can update 3 names that have changed on the books.

However, I seem to be missing one of the master docs from years ago and cannot seem to get in contact with the friend who did the layout ><

TTRPG bat signal:

I’m looking for books, zines, blog posts, articles, etc that give excellent advice on designing QUESTS for ttrpgs! Willing to accept youtube videos if they’re reeeeally spectacular.

Got any tips for me?

You might get some mileage out of Locus or our Scifi guide?

They are both faily directed towards specifically stories for that game but the core books have a mystery framework, and the Scifi guides final chapter is a step by step of how we design Locus Stories?

Feels a bit on the nose for the administration to be feeding the troops actual strips of boot leather tbh.

Query:

If you (or someone you watch/listen to) had a NON-TTRPG/Actual Play podcast, YouTube channel, etc.

AND

Played a tabletop roleplaying game on that feed/channel/etc

BEFORE 12/31/2018

could you let me know?

(I have some examples but trying to see if I missed anything)

Are you a content creator, Actual Play channel, or media outlet? We’d love to get you a copy of the Soothwardens QuickStart or work with you on game coverage!

Yeah but don't forget that having like.. any level of enthusiasm or commitment to things is just so deeply cringe.

Caring about stuff makes you an immature baby.

It's not just the RPG sub, by the way- basically all of reddit has an utterly insane stigma against "self promotion" because everyone there is a midwit trying to prove their own good taste through finding things through the approval of other redditors. Subreddits for art are particularly bad
