Heartfelt thanks to my PhD supervisor, Dr. @eunchaikang.bsky.social, and to my family, friends, and colleagues who supported me along the way.

Here’s to new beginnings—and to making a difference.

This wasn’t just a change in career—it was a shift in mindset. I now find myself working at the frontiers of science, asking bold questions, and exploring solutions with the potential for broad impact. One step at a time, I’m growing—not just in academic titles, but in purpose and vision.

continue on a successful academic path in medicine, or follow my passion for science and curiosity-driven research.

I chose the latter.
It meant starting over as a student, stepping away from a secure career, moving far from extended family, and making financial sacrifices. But it was worth it.

🎓 Incredibly proud to have graduated today from the @uniofaberdeen.bsky.social University of Aberdeen.

Back in 2021, as a Clinical Assistant Professor on the verge of promotion to Associate—and then Full Professor within a few years—I faced a pivotal choice:

Excited to attend this upcoming meeting on cortical development and hear from some of the leading voices in the field. I’ll also be presenting our work from @kangberglab.bsky.social on how maternal inflammation impacts early human cortical development.
Still time to register—don’t miss it!

Human cortical pyramidal neurons are larger, with more elaborate branching, and distinct nonlinear biophysical properties compared to rat cortical pyramidal neurons.

Are they more functionally complex? Could that boost the human brain’s computational power? and is that what makes us human? (1/11)
