Spent tonight adding status effects (finally). I wrote an 'aura' system that handles buffs/debuffs but more importantly every combat value in the game to manage 100's of overlapping effects at once, accurately and modularly.

Still hard at work! Through playtesting a lot of balancing changes and core systems have changed - for the better.

Lot's of work still ahead but she's coming along great!

Knowledge begets knowledge.

You're doing great, it's a normal feeling. 20 years of experience is called up when it is needed, but until then doesn't 'feel' like it is there.

You're no dumbass. ๐Ÿ˜

I use macros HEAVILY in my game. One of the best features of gamemaker that helps me organize code in wonderful ways.

This software is the best!

Tonight I wrote a weighted targeted-nearest system that attempts to score which cards you're attempt to target while holding a card.

This weight target selection helps it 'feel right' when the player is making choices.

Wards.

Armor in gaming can be done a lot of ways, I prefered to simplify it. Ward is very powerful and simply protects from 1 attack, pure and simple. Any damage is reduced to 0 and 1 Ward charge is removed. Easy to use, tricky to strategize around.

Here is another example showing how transmutation (an action) triggers both mob counters at the same time.

Action based gameplay.

Mobs have a wide arrange of attacks and spells, and they cast those when their action counter hits 0. Every "action" the player takes reduces their counter.

Thanks! I am a big fan of the style, the only thing holding me back is I worry it lends to being 'too simple.'

This week I am experimenting with minimalistic mob designs to dial in the aesthetic choices.

These are basically stick figures in my eyes, but I am a big fan of the aesthetic, contrast, and ease of color balancing.

Shy GOHST.

This little dudes mechanic is so adorable that he's getting his own place in the trailer for sure.

Albeit (as a dev) self-serving, I agree.

Gaming as a whole could do with a lot less hate, but devs seem to get a disproportionate amount for folks just out to make fun things for people.

After months of systems development, finally moving into art and aesthetic. So much work ahead but she's finally looking like a game!
