Generation of Brassica napus with enhanced Sclerotinia sclerotiorum resistance through CRISPR/Cas9‐mediated inhibition of the PROTEOLYSIS6 N‐degron pathway Click on the article title to read more.

The N-degron pathways move from basic to applied science.
This pathway will prove to be of key importance for agricultural improvement. Very happy to have been a part of this work led by Chen Lin and colleagues. #plantscience #nendrule #hypoxia

Tiny shoot apical meristems demand precision and patience. During my PhD, I measured oxygen directly by inserting a 3 or 10 µm microsensor into the meristem.

Very happy that this work is now published in Molecular Plant.

Multifaceted roles of MTL/NLD/PLA1 in plant reproduction:

In addition of inducing haploid embryos, loss of OsMTL function in rice 🌾 could lead to triploid embryo formation !!

Today it’s @epsgraduateschool.bsky.social Annual Meeting.
I am happy to present one of my favorite projects developed together with @panicuccigabriele.bsky.social, @jannehageman.bsky.social, and @daanweits.bsky.social, which has resulted in a tool for studying oxygen distribution in plant tissues.

What features are required to shape hypoxic niches enclosing meristems? We @viktoriiavoloboeva.bsky.social in collab @pieterverboven.bsky.social found that a combination of cuticle barrier, densely packed tissue and metabolic activity all uniquely contribute to maintain shoot apical meristem hypoxia

Great to see this out: Plants respond very fast (within 5-10 minutes 😱) to hypoxia and the N-degron pathway can be sufficient for this rapid induction.
Congrats @mikellavi.bsky.social and team!

This work would not have been possible without our wonderful collaborators from @pieterverboven.bsky.social Bart Dequeker Leen Van Doorselaer and Bart Nicolai from KULeuven and Pierdomenico Perata @theplantlab.bsky.social
and local team work @panicuccigabriele.bsky.social . Thanks folks!

We believe that our findings provide a foundation for exploring other hypoxic niches (like lateral roots, anthers and young leaves), aiding in their identification, characterization, and potentially predicting their formation in previously unstudied tissues or plant species

We are very excited to share a new resource from our team: spatial subcellular proteome maps in plants! We developed an MS-based method that registers localizations of about 8000 proteins in Arabidopsis roots in a single experiment.
