Huge thanks to everyone at our #IEEEVIS reviewing panel in Vienna. Grateful to panelists Han-Wei Shen, Michael Sedlmair, Melanie Tory, Helwig Hauser, Bei Wang, Tamara Munzner; and to an engaged audience. Co-organized with @drpi.bsky.social, @nelmqvist.bsky.social & Gunther Weber.
In case you want to be convinced to use the word "pattern" when talking about Bertin's "texture" have a look at our paper (or in case you want to argue with us because you believe texture is still the better term).
Also it's not only not sustainable to ignore reviews, it's rude and damages the reputation of the authors -- On the other hand, when reviewers ignore summary of changes that may have been submitted and don't explain why they may be asking for even more or different things, this is also not helpful.
Thanks for writing this.
What I would add to the post is that changes don't always strengthen the fundamental contributions but how they are communicated. It's an important learning experience to think about how to better frame one's work.
I have had a TVCG paper rejected for off topic, too 😊.

Application deadline: May 15th.
Scenario two was highly preferred with scenario one coming second. Issues of hubs we discussed were intellectual silos, forcing people to attend their closest hub (because the whole point is to save CO2), measures to take to ensure better networking options for ecrs.
Yes you guessed it :-). Intellectual silos were an interesting dystopia we discussed in this regard (but we had some ideas to combat this issue as well)
Now at para.chi Paris: what is our preferred future for a more sustainable CHI? Stay tuned for the winner...
Today we are at para.chi Paris where we see (mostly local) papers to be presented at ACM CHI in Japan. It's really nice to connect locally before the big conference (especially because I'm not going).
It would be a fun experiment to assign them the PCS test submission and see what happens
Touchy sufficient is great 😉.
Congratulations to the old and new VIS fellows.

A new version of Vispubdata (www.vispubdata.org) is out. It now includes the IEEE VIS 2024 papers and their metadata as well as the TVCG and @ieeecga.bsky.social papers presented at VIS. If you are working on an #ieeevis submission using this dataset, update.
Pretty much
I spent 2h on my last Friday evening with these great people. And nobody on social media has found the easter egg yet.
This would have been such a cool class project
Flyer for the VIZBI conference giving the dates as April 8-11, 2025 and the locations as Cambridge, UK and online.
If you are into BioVis consider attending VIZBI. I have been there before and it is a very nice community:
Excellent observation of CDU politics in @zeit.de
“The secret basic law of CDU politics: the reasonableness of political ideas and concepts is not derived from what they contain, but from who represents them. Only when we represent them and by representing them do they become reasonable.“
A trip down memory lane at the Dagstuhl library. I learned Java programming with the transparencies that eventually turned into this book.
Me walking in the omnidirectional treadmill.
My first time on the omnidirectional treadmill at the University of Stuttgart. Pretty impressive and massive and a little scary all at once.

Don't you need a kaneelbullar in the picture? (my spelling might be off on that one)
