How MAHA Fucked Up My Surgery | Shouldn't Need to Be a Lawyer by Matthew Cortland Get more from Shouldn't Need to Be a Lawyer by Matthew Cortland on Patreon

🧵 This isn't a story about a bad nurse. It's a story about a staffing model that put a new grad on a float pool because Tufts Medicine is hemorrhaging money, because 67% of its patients are on Medicaid, because OBBBA just cut a trillion dollars from the program. (Oh and the CEO took a 32% raise.)

What impostor syndrome? Just remind yourself, only one person in the room has a PhD and it’s you.

Quit ChatGPT: right now! Your subscription is bankrolling authoritarianism | Rutger Bregman As a historian, I’ve studied the major consumer boycotts of history. We can take down ChatGPT and send a powerful signal to Silicon Valley, says author and historian Rutger Bregman

"The most effective consumer boycotts in history share two qualities: they are narrow and they are easy," writes @rutgerbregman.com

Yikes, that’s terrifying. Stay safe friend!

This from the rooftops. Isolate people and they consume more to survive, instead of relying on community. We are always stronger together. They want us weak, sick, broken. More exploitable.

Today I had a full day of technical discussions in a large group…where I was the only woman.

I didn’t miss this. 😔

Positive displacement pipette. Didn’t even know they existed. Honestly I find I’m able to use a normal pipette for this just fine, but my coworkers struggle. Technique 💪🏻

Since when does a pipette need a battery?

And why does it need the only kind of battery we have none of at work - and that the hardware store next door is out of?

note: as a preventative, patients take it every other day

This basically leaves ya paying full price. It’s a fancy tier in the formulary, of course, it’s a great drug, works really well…but it does us fuck-all good if it’s unaffordable.

Please change the wording on your copay assistance #pfizer

Hey #Pfizer, your copay assistance on Nurtec does no good for patients who need it as a preventative:

- it’s sold in boxes of 8, so 2 boxes (16) is what I get at the pharmacy

- your coupon only allows for a 30 day supply

- pharmacies will not break the boxes to remove one tablet

Do the math 😡

No, all the synthesis I did ended up being on arenes/acenes/flat things.

I keep telling y’all I only respect “laws” that are empirically or mathematically derived. Everything else is just social contract, which (these days) is pretty broken on large scales.

(I might still observe fake laws, because anxious, but these? Fuck no. Clear and obvious bullshit.)

It’s worth going to Defcon at least once, to witness the SocEng Capture the Flag at least once. 20 minutes, 5 phone calls, how much sensitive info can you get from people?

Yes!!!!

An unfortunate consequence is that STI prevention info from reputable sources does not really cover a lot of what you might be doing. (I also suspect commonly ordered STI testing doesn’t cover some of the relevant pathogens, esp for immunocompromised folks!)

Yes! And the way it’s commonly defined is so cisheteronormative and so abled. If you’re outside those categories, the cultural scripts around it aren’t terribly applicable.
