Before travelling to #Iran on an 11 day reporting trip journalist #DimitriLascaris contacted 200+ Canadian media outlets and proposed filing stories for them. Only one expressed interest but never followed up. I spoke to him on my @ricochetmedia.bsky.social podcast.

Isn’t it interesting that the middle class is becoming economically marginalized and thereby in the near future access to things we took for granted will become exceptions? Coming to the conclusion the entire ruling class got us to vote against our interests
Trump lost this war in every possible sense — morally, legally, politically, economically, reputationally, and strategically.
damn ok avi lewis
For my podcast on @ricochetmedia.bsky.social I sat down with @nolore.bsky.social , @judreb.bsky.social and @mattfodor.bsky.social to talk about @avilewis.ca’s historic victory, the @ndp.ca and the future of social democracy in Canada. podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/i...
The Dems are taking cues from the manosphere just as the 'sphere is crashing and burning as its leading lights are popped for crimes ranging from false imprisonment to shooting a dead alligator.
Today the Quebec government passed Bill 9 -- just another in a long line of bigoted pieces of legislation that legalizes descrimination against people who wear religious symbols. I wrote about the impact of these pieces of legislation and the rise of the far right here:

I think this is my favourite interview with Stephen Lewis. It's 12 yrs ago, & we spoke about Pres. John F. Kennedy on the 50th anniversary of his assassination, because Lewis had debated Kennedy at UofT, & JFK helped get Lewis elected: www.youtube.com/watch?v=IqxX... #onpoli #uspoli
Is Avi Lewis too extreme for the electorate, or just too extreme for mainstream commentators? Ordinary Cdns support a wealth tax & would benefit from public alternatives to grocery & banking monopolies. www.thestar.com/opinion/cont...
My @albertaviews.bsky.social story on the challenges ahead for the federal NDP is now online for your reading pleasure.

There's jobs waiting on Teams Kinew, Nenshi and Eby.
Great article, worth a read.
“We now categorize Liberal Prime Minister Mark Carney as the centre, when he’s a right-wing banker whose top priority is not Canadians, but Canada Inc”
Syracuse is named after a classical Greek city known for its practical and artistic ceramics, a city which is now in Italy. When we kill the humanities we kill self-knowledge.

Equally important is the winning of all the executive positions. Much harder to make real change when the party apparatus is either steering the party in the wrong direction or working to undermine a leftist leader.
Including the so-called "consulting class" in the NDP. They've just been ousted from the federal party.
The most exciting development on the electoral left in Canada in a very long time.
“The collective crash-out of the Canadian political and news media establishment over Avi Lewis’ March 29 win in the NDP leadership race is giving me life.”

#AviLewis Wins: A Historic Left Turn for the #NDP”

So refreshing to listen to a panel (a whole panel!) engaging in a serious conversation about politics on the left. Was much more interesting than listening to the usual strategists/consultants from the 3 main parties cover the same ground as every other outlet.
A remarkable thing about #StephenLewis is that he never held power. He was never a premier or a prime minister. He was a provincial opposition leader. Even before becoming UN ambassador he had tremendous moral suasion in Canada & was regarded as a national leader…a statesman.
So sad that Canada lost one of its great statesmen. I had the privilege of being on the receiving end when Stephen Lewis was pressuring Canada to do more to fight the AIDS epidemic in Africa. Always on the left side of issues and the right side of history. We shall miss his moral leadership.
NEW: I spoke to a few people on Avi Lewis’s team to understand how he was able to go from being a twice-defeated candidate to the first-ballot winner of the leadership race.

The unions that endorsed Rob Ashton for #NDP leader collectively represent 659,200 members. Ashton received 4,193 votes. That means fewer than 0.7% of members from endorsing unions joined the party and voted for him.

BREAKING: Avi Lewis is the new federal NDP leader, winning 56% of votes.
Heather McPherson got 29% and, surprisingly, Tanille Johnston placed third with 7%.
Massive upset in the officer leadership at #ndp2026 -- the "continuity" slate was defeated by a last-minute slate that included Libby Davies. Only people in the room are allowed to vote on this and so it not only seals the Lewis victory, but it also shows that support goes deep.
The Carney government brings us destruction. A full-frontal assault on Indigenous peoples, the integrity of the tax collection system, foreign aid, and, apparently, the country's rail system, among many other things.
So Red Pill gave a speech and didn’t talk about Trump or the threat from the United States?
He’s an American plant. And how come I haven’t heard much from him about the separatists? #cpc
Six endorsement cards featuring Astra Taylor, Cory Doctorow, Ann Douglas, Gabor Maté, Carmen Aguirre, and Yann Martel for Avi Lewis for NDP leader.
How thrilling to be endorsed by a group of authors whose work goes so wide and deep - into the past and future, into ourselves and societies.
