The handle of this mirror was originally made of wood (now restored) covered with gold foil. The woman's face with cow's ears represents the goddess Bat and is also an emblem of the goddess Hathor. The use of gold and silver, rather than wood and bronze, identifies this as the possession of a member of the elite, in this case one of three foreign wives of Thutmose III. The king's cartouche is inscribed above the face. The oval silver mirror is still highly reflective, and you can clearly see my hands holding up my iPhone to take this pic. The combination of polished silver mirror and gold handle is striking.

The first of a three page feature on Annie Jump Cannon from a 1949 issue of Wonder Woman. The three-panel page opens with AJC later in life, holding a magnifier up to a star chart and sitting next to a large telescope. The second and third panels show her as a young girl, developing a fascination with optics and the separation of light into its constituent colors by a prism.

The second page of the feature has six panels, and recounts her college years and the beginning of her career.

The final page is divided into thirds, with three small panels in the first row, then page-wide panels in the second and third rows. It describes her work, the adoption of her classification system, and her recognition by the astronomical community.

Annie Jump Cannon retired in 1940, and passed away in 1941.
