(April 6, 2026) In this fully illuminated view of the Moon, the near side (the hemisphere we see from Earth), is visible on the right. It is identifiable by the dark splotches that cover its surface. These are ancient lava flows from a time early in the Moon’s history when it was volcanically active. The large crater west of the lava flows is Orientale basin, a nearly 600-mile-wide crater that straddles the Moon’s near and far sides. Orientale's left half is not visible from Earth, but in this image we have a full view of the crater. Everything to the left of the crater is the far side, the hemisphere we don’t get to see from Earth because the Moon rotates on its axis at the same rate that it orbits round us.

👨‍🚀 The #Artemis II crew are now further from home than any humans ever, and European engines brought them there 🚀.
🌍 The record of 400 171 km was previously held by the Apollo 13 mission 🌕.

Reid Wiseman on #Artemis II: "We have Earth out window 4 and Moon out window 3... the Moon is about 3-4 times the size of the Earth and it is almost full, and the Earth is just a small crescent out there... it's magnificent... such a majestic view out here"

Mission Control: "Amaze, amaze, amaze!"

I think this might be one of my favorite things at #OSM26. This “silent disco” style parallel talks where you can tune in to different talks, sit or just walk around. The room is quiet and cooled down. Not nearly as much shifting thru talks as the normal plenary rooms 12/10

Pictured: me in front of my title slide that reads “trait diversity, not species richness, drives phytoplankton productivity in the San Francisco Bay, USA” in front of the largest audience I have ever presented something before

It is true friends, I have faced the beast (the largest audience I spoke to ever) and slayed? Lovely experience and lots of great feedback from many people. Feeling like a celebrity being recognized around the halls.

Excited to relax and watch talks and talk to peers +

Towards a broader perspective on marine biodiversity change - Marine Biodiversity Biodiversity decline jeopardizes the foundation of natural ecosystems and human well-being, a concern that prompted major global agreements aiming to bend the curve towards a net positive biodiversity...

More than a year ago researchers from @hifmb.de and @icbm-uol.bsky.social started to write about different perspectives on marine biodiversity change from natural and social science perspectives. This morphed into a review paper that was published online today link.springer.com/article/10.1... 🧪
